Whilst RA has no formal position in which to influence, Putin, he is a long term friend and close confidant. RA recommended Putin (to then president Boris Yeltsin) as a candidate for presidency.

The the relationship between the two has been described like father and son.

And whilst RA's thoughts on the Russian invasion of Ukraine are not known, he is without doubt one of Putins biggest supporters.

The suggestion of honouring him, while innocent people are being slaughtered by Russian troops and bombardments is at best risible.

As was the act of Chelsea fans chanting 'Abramovich' over a minutes applause in solidarity with Ukraine at Turf Moor today...
