Excellent fight back. Problem exist in batting. Overdose of short format has killed English batting

This whole "reset" was never going to be something that would be sorted by the next series. The short formats are to blame doesn't wash with me, we've tried plenty of batsmen who are patient and longer format specialists but they just haven't cut it at test level.

Crawley needs to evolve as a batsman and learn to play with soft hands and with more of a mindset of survival in the first 15 overs or so. I don't know a lot about Lees but there's suggestions he is being groomed to take on the captaincy. Not sure I buy into that, I think he was seen as a future England player when Yorkshire had that period of dominance under Gillespie, then he went backwards, went to Durham and is now on an upward trajectory.

Not sure I'm comfortable with Root batting at 3 however if he's made the decision to bat there to help with our top 3 then he needs to stick at it for longer than a series. He's good enough to do it but just needs to back himself rather than move back to 4 after a few failures.

Good contributions from Stokes and Foakes to get us up to something respectable and fair play to Bairstow. Hopefully he's getting a nice taste of scoring big and he can continue doing it.
