Putin could easily have quietly sent a message to Roman...."get your affairs settled in UK fast, things are about to hot up". Wink wink....
==================
Putin didn't expect Ukraine to resist and make it hard and he thought wrongly that the assault will be a swift and over within days.
But he found Ukrainian people stubborn and very patriotic, and got involved in effectively a guerilla war and more deeply into this escalation.
Because of how the West reacted to the continuous nature of this assault, Roman got done by the speed of things and how quickly the Western opinions turned against Russians, and those who bankroll Putin.
That's why.

The possibility of a link to someone attacking another country gets you sanctioned. Unless you're Newcastle, of course, in which case the factual and proven link to someone attacking another country is ignored.
That's the reality of this scenario, and the reason why it is political grandstanding that's driving this, rather than any sort of principled decision.
Seven years Saudi Arabia have been attacking Yemen. Seven years. And the man that owns the fund that now own Newcastle has been overseeing that attack as well. Do we see even the suggestion of sanctions?
Of course not. We simply see the UK selling billions of pounds of weapons to the Saudis, so they can carry on doing it.
That's why I take all this sanctimoneous shiite that various rival fans keep dribbling out with a giant pinch of salt. Hypocrites to a man.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
On the nail! The corruption and double standards existing in the executive branches of all so called democratic western nations is clear for all to see...not only on the Ukraine issue. Scapegoating , blatant lying and self serving interests rule the times we now live in. Respect for authority therefore at an all time low. Not to mention broken treaties which Russia has to swallow with no objection.

On my last deployment before I left the Navy in 2013, we were diverted to the Yemen coast to to monitor the bombing which had just started - all offship communications for the Ships Company were disabled so we couldn't let people back in the UK what we was going on or that we were even there!

War is war regardless of time spent on it. Perceived enemies and their associates can expect punitive measures regardless of how quick the action.
Even if Russia took one day to win, the reaction would be almost identical targeting enemy allies.
The question remains....
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Ultimately Putin isn’t going to delay the war just to help out some oligarch escape with his stolen loot? Putin doesn’t give two hoots about anyone but himself!
Roman has been caught with his pants around his ankles! clearly! unfortunately for him.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You may be correct or not...who actually knows?
The point being is that the charges laid by the UK government are that RA is one of his (Putin's) biggest supporters and financing his army. IF that were true why not support the man who is importantly backing you? Letting him rot with his 'trousers round his ankles" as you so eloquently put it ,does not seem very smart. Truth is RA had little to do with or had knowledge of Putin's intentions...I think you have just supported my view of the situation...and the UK govenment acted because of the public outcry of things they ( the public) clearly know very little about....

I already responded to this...pls scroll up. Plenty of time to settle.
According to media reports plans were made to Invade Ukraine already 6-8 months ago as retaliation for Nato incursions and broken treaties with EU.
At very least RA could have laid plans to sell Chelsea early as he was already expected to do when his UK visa was revoked. He could have made a perfectly plausible statement....that since I'm not welcome here and being constantly unfairly attacked by the media, I am fed up with defending myself in the courts of a constant stream of libels, btw I did win every case I took to court and won damages. Enough is enough.
I"m selling up and moving elsewhere ...I have already sought domicile outside of UK so no point in continuing here. Why would that not have worked? TheYacht could have been moved to Russia or any other welcoming place. Its always on the move anyway.... Meditteranean, etc I personally saw it in Singapore...recently. Houses are easily put on the market and sold. If only the club was dealt with that would have been perfectly understandable...

Yes Putin is going to share his invasion plans with a civilian so that he can sell his football club in time
Let's imagine Putin did inform Abram, and Abram would out of the blue put Chelsea up for sale and leave the UK. What do you think people would speculate?

He figured he got away with it in ²⁰¹⁴ in the Crimea so he probably thought he would get away with it again.
This hasn't happened and now your club is suffering because of your owners ties to Putin. Tough shat in my view. Somethings are more important.

Your this is dissed!

----------------------------------------------------------------------
For the record, I'd be absolutely delighted if Newcastle's new owners were similarly sanctioned.

Man, this sounds dangerously close to actually backing Putin.

It’s all a moot point. Had he sold prior to being sanctioned all he would be is a multi-billionaire with 15bn instead of 12bn but still confined to only enjoying it in @rsehole despot countries of the world so it is facking pointless.
