VAR - GENUINELY

Yes the camera angle during the replay wasn't great so it looked offside to me. No idea how they judge the angles but as long as it's consistent, I don't have an issue.

The TV replay then showed clearly that Jota was offside

Well that's a wrong statement right from the start! The TV replay suggested he may be offside. He wasn't. No conspiracy.

The VAR uses unique cameras, some with high / very high frame rates, special software to draw the lines at angle accounting for camera angles and sync with pitch mics to get the correct timing of when exactly the ball is kicked for making offside calls.

No conspiracy I'm afraid.

Same as TOOR, the final angle they showed was again really tight too however just onside.

Further, not all the VAR cameras are part of the broadcast studio. I think EPL use 28 total iirc? Too many for a director to handle expediently. Think some setups use 33 and FIFA minimum is 4 though think most countries use minimum 8 again iirc?

It begs the question, how can we be sure that the images the people in the VAR office are providing are totally plausible and haven’t been tampered with?
==================
This has been a contention for a long time. Same as when they draw the line from the arm pit down?

These are arbitrary points and they decide to base a football game outcome on people in VAR decide based on what angle they have or quality picture they have...

It's totally shambolic and makes fans questions some of these points.

VAR can interfere sometimes and overrule a valid goal because during the build up, someone sneezed on a player, or sometimes, like yesterday Antonio smashed Dier in the face with an elbow, both the ref and VAR took no action?
VAR has just created favouritism in referees who manage from behind the cameras

They got the non penalty right too, good day for VAR.

Another for the OP
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/sportsnews/article-10135251/World-Cup-2022-set-automated-offside-favoured-Arsene-Wenger.html

After it is implemented in the league who will we blame - the software writers?

Yep, totally agree about the penalty

I was just interested as to whether others had questioned the integrity of those who actually draw ‘those lines’?

Personally, I don’t like the idea of the game being run by robots, for all the possible human errors - I just prefer it that way

Jota was offside. Watch Lukaku's goal vs Liverpool in the league cup final... he was onside yet VAR said he was off to benefit Klopp + co. City are another team that get bailed out by VAR every week... their latest nonsense penalty vs Saints as proof of such.

Jota was clearly offside.

Stop bringing Lukaku into it. This discussion is about the Jota incident and it looks level.

In the tv replays Jota looks to be offside. In the VAR images it looks inconclusive to me (admittedly at my age my eyesight isn’t what it used to be).

If in doubt I would always call in favour of the attacking team.

For the penalty shout I’d say definitely no penalty.

I also thought the referee was the best we’ve had this season, Linos were poor though..

posted on 21/3/22

I thought it was a penalty also but obviously the replay cleared that up. Was surprised the referee didn't give it. Good spot if he spotted the trailing leg but more likely he thought that if it was a penalty, VAR would have corrected his decision.

The problem with this approach is that it leaves it open to VAR saying it wasn't a clear and obvious error, which I don't like. Regardless, correct decision.

VAR is awful - bloomin hate it. All it has done is move the errors from the pitch to the VAR studio. Players make mistakes, managers make mistakes and refs make mistakes - it's part of the game.

I don't believe in a conspiracy theory in favours of some teams over others though - just that VAR is ruining the free flowing game. Fans don't know whether to celebrate a goal any more.

As an aside, I thought Forest were excellent again yesterday and with better finishing could have forced extra time and maybe pens. If they come up, I reckon they could do pretty well.

Surely a lot of credit due to the officials who got the call right in both occassions?

I thought it was a clear pen and offside, replays showed otherwise.

Rule of thumb, if you agree with Culer you're probably wrong.

I'm not sure what commentary you were listening to but on ITV he called it inside immediately because he could see the VAR lines being drawn.

However, I do wish they'd just draw it from the feet. Done.

That’s not true - the commentator and his sidekick called it offside as soon as they saw the replay - Lee Dixon even said that will be disallowed once VAR has finished its findings…only then for VAR to come back with a different angle with lines on it showing onside

There was definitely disparity between what the ITV replay showed and what VAR showed
