I worked for a pension platform where we asked for the customer's gender and during GDPR had to establish whether we had any need to ask for that rather than seeeex and thought that, at the time, there was no legal distinction.

As it is cons are right now doing it to serve their time in women's jails then self-ID'ing back after release. Whilst in prison some are stopping taking their hormone therapy because they can't get a hard on!
