Trans women ban from cycling

It really should go without saying that trans athletes should not compete against biological women or men.

They should have their own category. that would be far fairer.

Big 'Lia' Thomas in the US is also pushing the limits posting times faster than women Olympic medallists in college swimming. It is fine - these people are pushing the bounds of ridiculousness so far that they will bring the whole sorry mess to a conclusion that is fair to all.

Nice big cauk to be fair

I thought you’d be angry about this pranks, seeing it’s going to damage your chances of winning?

Nobody is “gender born male” or “gender born female”. Gender is a social and cultural construct.

I think you might mean “born biologically male” and “born biologically female”.

Apologies if I sound pedantic, but it’s quite an important distinction.

Noticed Boris publicly supporting banning trans athletes competing against women. He knows how to work the crowd. Tories can wreak havoc on society but they can always be relied upon to make the common sense decisions on issues like this, unfortunately. Keir would never

He also refused to ban conversion therapy a few days before, causing companies to pull out of what was supposed to be his flagship LGBT+ event so it was cancelled. So I'm not sure his sense is all that common.

Common sense. The swimmer one was ridiculous. Ranked 143 in the world as a man and then 6 months later is ranked 1 in the world when competing as a female

That depends on where you are in the world, and doesn’t preclude the very definitions of the terms. They are conceptually and semantically different.

Fwiw, the UK govt recognises them as different concepts:

As do most other govts in the developed world, social scientists, behavioural scientists, psychologists, biologists, medical and mental health academics, and intergovernmental organisations, including the WHO.

Its never good to make law based on the extreme case.

in general the vast majority of cases this is not really an issue so we need to be ensuring we recognise that.

The participants in women's sports need to have a level playing field. if this means a minority are impacted than they are impacted.

theres never an easy choice in these things for the individual.

I do feel "having it all" is again a bad way to make law for all. Most of us simply can't have it all despite what the internet feeds us as a line.

Unfortunately in this case it means someone has to give up their sport in a competitive sense to make their transition at the time they want to because the majority of their competitors would be disenfranchised

Ahh this has changed since I looked into it before then.

I worked for a pension platform where we asked for the customer's gender and during GDPR had to establish whether we had any need to ask for that rather than seeeex and thought that, at the time, there was no legal distinction.

They don't have to give up their sport in a competitive sense, they would just continue to compete as male / female.

Sport should be based on seeeex, not gender. Since Rosso has just pointed this out to me as different concepts.

If Sturgeon has her way anyone can self ID as trans and immediately start using female facilities. As it is cons are right now doing it to serve their time in women's jails then self-ID'ing back after release. Whilst in prison some are stopping taking their hormone therapy because they can't get a hard on!

The rumour is that the female cyclists would refuse to compete if the transgender cyclist was allowed to race.

Would be a massive leap if that was the case - every other time the women have just meekly stood aside and let a male take somebody's place. Are the women actually thinking about standing up for themselves or is this just a one-off?
