Wenger has never been able to make big money signings.
In fairness with Arteta he's got someone with heaps of prem experience plus he's doing well. No one will be able to fill the void Cesc left but he's doing alright.
Mertesacker I feel needs time to adjust to the English game, he's clearly a decent player, just needs time

David Dein was responsible for the signings of the likes of Vieira, Anelka Petit, Overmars, Henry, Fabregas etc. Ever since he has left we haven't really signed anyone decent appart from Nasri. Dein and Wenger clearly had a good relationship and understanding we desperately need him back.
Wasn't nasri average when he started, what about henry as well. You can't judge the new crop of players on a few games of football.
Wenger has NEVER bought a world class striker.
Thierry Henry was never classed as a striker and Anelka is and never was World Class.
Also, you're a bit early on Gervinho as "average". Many an Arsenal fans rated Henry as rubbish in the first few months, even the whole season.
Oh, and Andre Santos with ONE game under his belt, as flop..??
Arteta has looked good but I was a bit disappointed yesterday with his performance. Santos needs to build fitness and then he will be a good player for us. Ditto Park and Chamberlain - that's why they aren't playing.
Squillaci was a panic buy, never a no.1 target.
Gervinho shows flashes of brilliance and some real dross - hopefully he will come through.
I maintain Wenger doesn't like making big money signings because they don't normally come off for him, but he's not a complete moron - he will turn us around.
