I think he is a fairly level headed lefty, I don't think for a second he is woke however.
Let's have a look at the dictionary definition:
"Aware of and actively attentive to important facts and issues (especially issues of racial and social justice)".
Gervais is vocal about human rights and animal rights.
He is woke, in the correct use of the terms. If you choose to skew the meaning of that word, that's on you.

You've given the definition and are still wrong, well done.
RG doesnt give a chit about social justice.
Literally from the show you claim to love
“In real life, I support trans rights. I support all human rights. Trans rights are human rights. Live your best life. Use your preferred pronouns. Be the gender that you feel you are. But meet me halfway, ladies. Lose the cock"
Yes, there's a punchline at the end, but if you truly don't believe what comes before that punchline, you clearly don't know much about Gervais.
Problem he’s had is too often he forgets the satire and it actually was the cheap laugh he was after all along.
It’s why he’s a lot better when working with Merchant.
Stretty, you’d put him as your goat for stand up? Each to their own, but nowhere near for me.

Ricky Gervais was born with 5 opinions and has chosen to wheel those 5 opinions out every couple of years, either in the form of a shiiite tv show or a cringe stand-up routine
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This. His career is so much recycled hot takes it's hard not to be polarized by it. Either he's a hilarious culture-hero or a cringey bore. I'm with you - it's obvious and unwatchable, the occasional exception aside.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Oh feck off 😂.
Obvious and unwatchable? You two must of had a sense of humor bypass
----------------------------------------------------------------------
about anything? And then a bit about how he doesn't care if he offends anyone? And then a bit about how transgenderism is ridiculous? And then a bit about how religion is silly? And then a bit about how he's rich? And then a bit about how animals are good?
It's the shame shiiiite over and over again
Who cares, even if the topics are the same, the jokes aren't. its why he is the most successful stand up comic in the world.
his job is to make people laugh, he does not miss
Is he the most successful? How so?
Currently he is the highest paid and highest grossing. Only chapelle is coming close to him.
Seinfeld and Larry david's net worth is higher buts thats pretty much entirely down to their shows.

Source?
I searched “highest paid comedians” and “highest paid stand up comedians” he didn’t get a single mention… the yanks kill it.
Enlighten us, o king of Google
I reckon he must be going off the 'richest comedian' list. Gervais is up there but most of his net worth will have come from the Office.
Thinking about that scene in after life where 60 year old Gervais decided to have a fictionalised version of himself beat up two teenage muggers
Literally writing fan fiction about himself ffs bet he was stroking himself off watching that back in the edit

Wouldn’t touch the likes of Seinfeld though… or even Rock, Hart etc
I’m sure Stretty will hook us up with the link though… he’s well known for his citations and accuracy

Me too. The only time I see him mentioned, he’s listed at number 25. Hmmmm.

I like Gervais but have to agree his TV shows in general arent great. The Office aside which is bona-fide genius. Aside from that I think his best work is the xfm podcasts with Stephen Merchant and Karl Pilkington (and the subsequent TV show that came out of them)
As for Supernatural - pretty good. Not particularly outstanding.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I've been re-listening to these lately and they're so funny. The dynamic of the three of them and the lightening in a bottle that is discovering Karl is just hilarious

After life is amazing and easily his best work.
I've never been overly keen on his TV stuff, the office is good but afterlife was extremely funny and moving. Easily his best.
That said his stand up us amazing he's probably the goat for me, I wish he'd do more of that personally.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Comedy wise I think after life is pretty poor. A lot of the jokes are regurgitated ones from Extras. I actually find the serious scenes in after life much better.
IMO his greatest work is the Office. I really enjoyed season 1 of extras especially the Samuel Jackson episode but didn’t really like season 2 very much.
