Its very simple. What is Nketiah valued at? £15m in today's market? So if Arsenal have decided to give him £90k a week which is about £4.6m a season for 5 seasons equates to about £23.4m.
Subtract £15m which is his transfer value and the contract really is £8.4m over 5 years.
Is Eddie worth £32k a week? I think so.
Smacks of desperation, and poor squad management, and now it's costing you.
Not sure why? Eddie is young and so has some value. He is limited but has progressed very quickly and there is no reason why he shouldn't continue to do so. If he doesn't we will still get a reasonable return on a sale because of the English premium.
On the strength of a career where he has failed to impress, bar the last few months of the season where he scored 5 goals....he's worth £100k a week
Kane's break through season was aged 22. He scored 21 gaols in 2014/15, He would have been on pittance, probably like NKetiah was.
In 2016 he signed a new deal to about £50k, having scored over 50 goals for the club.
Then a year later doubling to about £100k having had 3 x 20 goal PL seasons .
Then again in 2018 doubling again to about £200k+, which is his current deal.
NKetiah has sign on at £100k a week having scored league 10 goals for Arsenal
His wages are reportedly higher than Saka and Smith Rowes & Martinelli's......I'd be taking exception to this if i was them!
Saka, ESR, Saliba and Martinelli are all getting new contracts.
From what I have heard the £100k a week is based on everything over 5 years. So that includes a signing on fee (£5m), bonuses (which may not be paid) and the likes.
So, works out as maximum £26m over 5 years.
Eddie was free to leave, so had power.
There is another potential factor. To get compensation we have to offer him a new contract in writing. This then affects how much we will get. It could be Eddie is still going to leave, and this contract was trying to maximise the fee we get from the compensation. I think he will stay, but you never know - he hasn't signed yet!
Eddie Nketiah: top-15% among forwards in the top-5 leagues for non-pen goals and interceptions per 90 mins played. Top-10% tackler and pass completion. Almost top-10% non-pen xG and expected assists. Not worth £100k/wk? Give your head a shake. #AFC #Arsenal. [stats via @fbref] https://t.co/wdjwfWbs0v
