You do these lists relatively regularly, and I would say the same that I said before. A lot of those U23 players that make up half the bad egg list were scattergun signings so that we could field youth teams, because Cellino absolutely gutted the youth system. The fact that we now have a Category One academy, with players featuring in the PL and not looking out of place, is testament that the way that AR and VO approached the youth squads has been very successful. All those nondescript free transfer youth signings probably get covered by the money we'd make on one Struijk. Orta's youth recruitment doesn't always work, but I think we've seen it be much more hit than miss over the last year or so.
I would also move Firpo to the wait and see column.

Seconded. That paints the situation in a totally different light. And a good one. As much as I don't see a defender
anywhere near Firpo's DNA, I'll admit, he needs the summer and a bit more time.
So Roberts is a good signing, likewise Sacko and Ekuban, all three were failures at Championship level yet you hold them in the same regard as Koch.
Saiz could be described as a curate's egg at best or may I suggest a further category a poisoned apple.
Jamal Blackman appears to be a bad egg on the basis he broke his leg, hardly fair.
I am sure Lasogga has every right to look back on signing for us with great regret. A combination of poor coaches and a p!ss poor owner contrived to ruin a promising career. A good signing very badly handled by the club.

Made sense as others have also mentioned Orta was forced into scattergun U23s buying when he first came to club. It actually changes the field for me. His senior signings are not as bad as I thought so once you take out the plethora of failed U23s it gives me a little more confidence in him. Meslier/Struijk/Gelhardt will more than pay for the U23 failures.
Hjelde looked more than capable too in his short stint.

I did state a few players only just made my good list
- Sacko and Ekuban were two of those. Already stated that the reason they went under good was that from memory we didnt lose out transfer fee wise.
Sacko was not a failure at championship level. Played 38 league games for us in the season we finished 07th under Monk which was our best effort for years and years.
Ekuban looked useful but the season was marred by injuries. Remember most on here being surprised when Bielsa got rid of him. Gone on to play in Turkish Super Lig and Serie A.
Roberts is absolutely not a failure in the championship. The knockers will point to low goals and assists stats yawnnnn but i can see with my own eyes what he brings to the table. Paid £2.5M? Could sell him for double that maybe more today.
Lasogga scored 10 in what was it, 30 or so games?..
Roofe was top scorer and beat him by 1!..
The crap he got from some was amazing, especially when you think he didn't cost us that much, HSV paid most off his high wages!..
But the crap he got, I suppose it'd be something like what Bamford used to get, and now we've seen how much we missed him!..
But most know Lasogga played a lot while injured, I wonder how things might have been if he'd been fit, oh, and a little fitter!..

My prediction is that Roberts will eventually leave on a free. Cannot see Premier League teams queuing up to buy him and championship teams with £5m to spend will be wanting goals in return and will look elsewhere. Take your goggles off Kebab.
Love to be wrong on this, but agree with Els regards
Tyler. He can do the odd thing that makes you think
there's a footballer with real skill there. But overall,
he hasn't got the end product. If he's third choice or
even fourth choice next season we're in trouble.
Ekuban played 20 times for us and scored once, Sacko as I recall it another one who flattered to deceive, kept running past people with little end product. Winger so maybe his 2 goals are a poor indicator but 4 assists in 38 games doesn't add up to him being a huge success.
You must have very low standards. Lasogga 33 appearances, 10 goals and 4 assists and he's a bad egg. "Bad Egg" , not sure I even like your use of words.
Batty, it isn't that I don't want him to succeed, I'd love it if he proved me wrong, I just think to put him in the good bit of business category is, at best, a delusion.
And it isn't just for us, he does nothing when he pulls the welsh shirt on as well.
For us 108 appearances, 9 goals and 10 assists.
Els, same goes for Dan James re us and Wales.
Thing is though football isn’t always about stats Els and you always come back to them and you always use them incorrectly in any case. 108 appearances - would guess it would barely amount to 50 games if you added it up in minutes. Of those estimated 50 games how many of them were when he was played on the wing or in midfield? If your going to use stats at least look at them in detail
Personally prefer to look with my eyes. Footballs a team game and if the team is doing well then that’s more important than goals and assists. Since Tyler came to the fold we have gone from 13th in championship to a Premier league team and Bielsa backed him for 3.5 seasons to play in a variety of formations. £2.5m an absolute bargain I would say. If he does run down his contract and leave on a free then it will have been a good piece of business at worst
Lasogga 33 games 10 goals.
Well played sir lasogga
All about the stats again
Forget the the fact the bloke stood still for 90 minutes. How many presses did he complete
How many km per game
Headers won? Tackles? Free kicks won?
He scored 10 goals so he must be good 👍🏻
To be fair lasogga wasn’t far off reaching my good signings but my understanding he was on a huge wage when he came?
Lasogga knew where the goal was along as someone could hit him with ball. He just wasn’t capable of moving to it. Supertankers could turn quicker. I think a look at where his career went confirmed he was a busted flush by the time we got him.
The Tyler debate runs endlessly. His link play is actually pretty good and measurements coaching teams look at about progressing the team forward etc are pretty good with him in the side. Ie runs he makes that help others combined with what he actually does himself. It’s the sort of thing that a lot of fans (me included) don’t always notice or appreciate. People seem to forget that although labelled as a striker he hardly ever plays as one. So goals shouldn’t be the main currency.0
But ultimately his end product is and has been lacking. Consequently he’s a source of frustration because to me there is a player there, and he works hard… but the stick he gets is unwarranted and I doubt it helps his confidence.
