When Chelsea signed shevchenko after just winning the league back to back as a United fan I was terrified.
Jose had made them into an absolute machine and suddenly they went and got one of, if not the, best forward in Europe at the time.
I was genuinely like dear god we are screwed. Luckily it didn’t work out and began the third season mourinho syndrome but at the time it was like W…T….F
I know you are looking for PL history signings...
but as a Spurs fan, I was so excited when we signed Rafael Van Der Vaart.
Before that, Klinsmann. Unreal signing.
Would say it would mainly be the earlier big names from Europe.
Klinsmann to Spurs.
Bergkamp to Arsenal (not for Stewy Pearce though).
Vialli and Zola to Chelsea
Di Maria
Torres to Chelsea
Aguero
Tevez and Mascherano to West Ham on the final day of the window... Was a crazy one!

Yeah back then we'd just lost Roy Keane and the infamous JTSS virus hadn't been discovered. I must say though, I did half suspect he'd flop and he did terribly. They signed him 2 years too late. They also got Ballack that summer and he wasn't great neither.
Robinho to City and Ozil to Arsenal are definitely the Top 2.
Tbh I’d never heard of Veron until he signed for Utd. Rooney is up there but everyone knew he was signing for Utd months ahead of time.

Yeah VDV was announced AFTER the window closed in 2010. Great player too... I am sure with about 40 mins left of that window it suddenly broke that Spurs had been trying all day to get him and there was news due.
Some of the Bolton signings in the peak allardyce days are worth a shout too. I mean wtf where they doing at Bolton, it was unreal. Campo, Jay-Jay, gianakopolous, hierro etc
How the heck they pulled those off I’ll still never understand. Big Sam def up to no good

Incorrect. Newcastle had a deal done with Wazza but then we stole him.
Honourable shouts for 'nearly' signed them:
Rivaldo to Bolton
Ronaldinho to United
Kaka to Man City
Imagine if they all came off!!!
Ronaldinho and Zidane to Blackburn.
I remember huge huge hype and excitement around Reyes signing for Arsenal in 2004. Never quite worked out but he was a terrific player who is now no longer with us. Awful shame.
Reyes RIP
na Haaland trumps them all IMO.
we are genuinely looking at Haaland and wondering if he will smash goalscoring records next year.
Personally I think Tevez and Mach created more than the three you mentioned.
People were really scratching their heads at them getting them both. people assumed they would go up a few levels.
Rooney and Veron never had that magic feel that they were gonna take the new team up a level or two.
Robinho signing looked more exciting than it was cos it had all the fans gathered cos it was deadline day IIRC
I’d say Robinho was the biggest that I can remember. Hazard to chelsea was also a lot of fanfare

Ozil? The Fack?
Hard not to seem bias or side with the club you support transfers as there the ones that have excited me….not really interested in other teams transfers , well they don’t excite me but in no particular order mine are….
Haaland …city …..think he is a beast!
Van der Vaart….Tottenham….classy
Klinsmann….Tottenham
Ginola….Tottenham ….my favourite player
Rebrov….Tottenham
Impossible not to be bias

How is Haaland the most exciting? He's just a goalscorer, not very skillful or dynamite like Rooney was when we got him.

Hazard was a kn=b that summer, literally going public about choosing his team between City, Madrid and Chelsea. Too much player power.

Cos he is expected to score more and win more than Rooney was. Cos City dont have an out and out striker. so can be seen as an instant masive improvement. Rooney wasnt posting numbers anywhere near as impressive as Haalands.
Rooney was far more exciting than Haaland, much better footballer than him.

I thought this was a personal choice ?
I’ve never cared much for United and didn’t care at the time they signed Rooney as good as he was (you were winning everything at the time so it was boring)
Haaland for me is going to be the best striker in the world and I can’t wait to see him week in week out in the premier league
I’d already watched Rooney for Everton
