I see twitter going mad about this. Again shows so much that’s wrong with the world by the responses. I think this was just again a question and answer taken out of context. People thought he was black, or not English, due to having Tanned skin, and used racist slurs against him…all this is if the story is to be believed anyway. But that could be quite harmful to a kid no?
I don’t know maybe I’m reading it wrong but there’s comments online saying “Gary lineker is black now?!” Etc. I think he’s just saying he had slurs heckled at him. I’m not sure if that’s a reason to beat up the man?
Mags in could be reading it wrong
Again I could be reading it wrong *
I thought this would be Gary Neville when I started reading the OP.

Think of it as a test to see how famous a Gary, Lineker is.
For me he’s the 5th most well known Gary, apparently.

I’ve got
Gary Neville
Gary Bailey
Gary Numan
Gary Oldman
Gary Glitter
All ahead of him
I want to know where you rank Barlow in all of this?!

Don’t forget, this abuse would have been 50 years ago, when attitudes were different and anyone not white would have been considered foreign.

Last time I checked Sancho, Rashford etc are “English"
=====
Last time I checked they wouldn't have even been born when Lineker was at school. Different times, there weren't many "black English" people about in the 60s, nor in professional football in England in the 70s.
OP scouring the Web for something to be offended by. Unbelievable. Two friends of mine had dark skin growing up, despite being Caucasian and got racially abused all the time, one being called a racial slur for somebody from Pakistan. He even got a nick name which has stuck with him to this day, which is racially abusive. People look at me strangely when I call him by his proper name.
always thought Lineker must have some non anglo blood in him due to his "olive" skin tone
extremely few pure Anglos have anything other than alabaster white skin
Perhaps a relic of the Neolithic Farmers or western Hunter Gatherers that constitute a small part of English Ancestry ?

It is Anglo-Saxon associated with a flax grower so probably from the same root as "linen".
Na not really
Just thought it was funny that even in todays world he would say I couldn’t believe I was being racially abused because I’m English. Especially off the back of what happened to the lads at the last England tournament

He’s worded it badly but I get what he was trying to say. But probably best if he had just not said anything at all but he seems to love the sound of his own voice. Last week he compared going to Qatar to present MOTD for the WC to journalists who report the war in the Ukraine.
