First of all it's been a dream to play for Manchester City ever since i was a young boy, hours spent in the back garden pretending it was Maine Road and i was prime Uwe Rosler. It's not about the money i promise, it's that i can't be ersed playing in the Championship next season now we're selling all our good players.

Took a huge gamble in turning down Villa while we were in the championship.
Obviously was a very different decision to the ones faced by the likes of Howson, Snodgrass, Byram etc. Phillips chose to stay at at time when the club was clearly ambitious enough to win promotion whereas I don't think that was realistic when the former chose to leave.
But still it was brave and it's paid off for him now.
comes across as a top bloke and leaves with his reputation in tact and the best wishes of everyone at Leeds.

Good luck to the lad. It really is remarkable the turn around he did from how he was before bielsa came along.
6 year deal will take him into 32 so the lad will be set for life on this contract alone.
He will win trophies with City and that will also include a league title (if we are being realistic).
Wish him all the best and hope we can pump that money into a couple of quality signings

I wish Kalvin all the very best and thank him for all his loyal service to Leeds United but actually I think Leeds will not miss KP as much as others seem to think.
The simple reason is JM's methods that are much different to Bielsa's would not have suited KP had he stayed but will enable the replacements/new signings to give us a stronger more balanced midfield and I think we will enjoy mid table mediocrity which is a beautiful thing in my book.
Him talking to City for 3 months explains him strolling around the pitch for the last 4 or 5 games a shadow of himself then, Brentford aside

Best of luck to Kalvin. Brilliant (Leeds) lad and player.
I'll continue to follow his career. Sure Pep will get the
very best out of him.

Not sure why you would say that. The letter is written in a way I’d expect KP to write it… what would you want him to say “I’m not impressed with AR or JM… Jonty is right about them two….and in reality the cash is more important than any club loyalty””.

Either way, presumably Phillips and his agent approved it.
Sad day for football and fans of all clubs. Grealish last season, Phillips this....whos next.
Zero loyalty in the game.
Backed Kalvin throughout his tough early days. Enjoyed his rise to the present.
But he has gone now and he chose to leave.
Disappointed in the player.
Very very disappointed at the state of modern day football.

Classic Jonty when someone’s opinion doesn’t align with his own.
Especially when they are much better placed to have an opinion than him.

How many exit messages do you see mentioning three board members by first name?
I thought Marsch tribute was very contrived, word this two elements differently and it would come across as more authentic.

You don't see many tbh. So any normal person without an agenda would read this and see it as a positive for our boards members.
But not Donald Trump lite over here. Who sees something that doesn't agree with his agenda and just shouts fake news at it.
i'm not sure if you have realised, but Phillips will have a lot lot better visibility of the goings on inside the club. than yourself. And I suspect he compares the club now, to the club before they arrived. And appreciates that there was zero chance of promotion before they arrived and sees how the club and his career have improved many times over. And maybe just maybe, he wanted to say thanks for that.
To be fair to Jonty… he may not be the only fans on here who sees this the way he sees it.
It would be interesting to know, so, rate this article 5 stars if you think it’s a genuine message from KP, or rate it with 1 star if you agree with Jonty’s view.
I took it as a genuine message. From KP.
When he thanks Radz, Orta, and the Eton Fop, to me
at least, it came across as him doing so as a Leeds lad
and Leeds fan first. Player second. More gratitude for
getting the club back on it's feet and in the Prem.
The message about MB was pure heart and love for
the man and what he has meant for him personally
(and the club/City).
The message to Marsch, again, felt like it was KP the
Leeds lad and fan thanking him for keeping us up more
than anything. And then this line:
"Over the last 4 years me and you boys..."
That screams Leeds lad speaking as a mate who
absolutely loves his mates (team mates). And no PR
group worth it's salt puts out a statement worded in
that way. That was conversational in tone (genuine).
That was my take. Regardless, I'll/we'll miss him in
out team. But, damn what a player he's turned into.
Wish him nothing but absolute success.
Well, you can read whatever you want into Phillips's goodbye and it's your right to do so and to express your opinion.
Seems to me that he was just thanking the club for giving him a start, thanking the management for allowing him to commit to Man City (when he could have generated more revenue by going elsewhere?), thanking Bielsa for turning him into the player that he's become. That's all - he's moved on and so should we.
None of our players did particularly well last season. Phillips was out for a long time but when he did play, he wasn't at his best, either before or after Bielsa was sacked. It's going to be interesting to watch how he adapts to becoming a small fish in a big pond, whether Guardiola or playing with the best in the PL can improve his game. I hope it all works out for him but I must admit that I'm asking myself now whether we saw "peak KP" during the Euros? We'll see.
