Yuki Abe scored twice last season? Thought Brighton was his first goal for the club!

He scored once last season in the last game against Ipswich.

yeah he pops up every now and again.

"Every now and then" is right. We could do with many more goals from both Abe and Wellens: they are scoring surprisingly rarely, given the number of games they each play and the forward positions they get into.

On saturday , I know for corners Peltier, Mills and Bamba were all going up, whilst Abe dropped into defense with konchesky as cover, so I'm not too concerned at the Defensive side of the midfield diamond getting goals. However, I think Kings shots and opportunities have lacked a bit of sharpness and attack, than the past few seasons.

I thought Abe was playing the holding roll.

Not likely to get too many goals from there.

Have to be honest, I don't think Wellens or Abe get in to that many advanced roles, so I am not too worried about their shots to games; Abe is averaging just over 1 crack at goal a game and Wellens just under.

Concerning King, he has got off more shots at goal than any other player in the team, with only Nugent hitting the target more, so he is definitely getting himself in the positions.

We are averaging just under 13 shots a game which I'm quite happy with as well.

And one other stat....after the worries about our large squad, rotation, tinkering...so far this season, more than half the the teams in the league have used more players than us.

The thing with our squad is, we have the same high level of quality throughout the squad. Where teams have to bring in younger or not as good players when injuries strike, we don't.

Saturday was a prime example of this. We had to make 3 changes in the starting line up through injuries, yet overall quality was not sacrificed in the slightest. Same with the 3 substitutes that were made, we brought on 3 almost or just as equally good players to replace 3 already on the pitch.

Not many teams in the championship have around 9 players who are equally as good as the starting 11.

The other goal that the Mail is trying to credit the lad with for 2010/11 is away at Donny. The scorer in that one was in fact Yakubu – which looks a teensy bit like Yuki Abe, but not really enough to rate the excuse 'an easy mistake to make'.
