To answer OP-definitely dubious timing, I’d be furious if I was one of the Ghanaians left out

I know Eddie switched allegiance a while ago (several months at least). I think fair play to them. They clearly want to represent a country. Whether it's because they don't think it'll happen for England or whether they feel a connection to Ghana, despite living here, they've actively thought about it and made that decision.

I do agree that the players who'll get dropped as a result may have some feelings about it but it's weirdly similar to how we use youth / younger players in the first rounds of our cup games only to see the first teamers playing in the final games (if we get that far). If these guys are better than the current (presumably local) players, the country benefits and that probably comes first.

We did the same with Rice and Grealish?

Eddie Nketiah hasn't switched yet, has he?
Inaki Williams not Nico, or did they both switch?

I actually think players should be able to switch if they are eligible to play for other nations - even if they have caps. I would do it in 4 year windows (ie after every World Cup). Ideally you want every nation to field a strong as possible XI, so I always think it is a bit of a shame when someone got a few caps for, say, France a decade ago cannot go and improve another nation he is eligible for. Would also take away the pressure of making a career long choice at 18 that I am sure some regret.

The 4 year rotation would mean you wouldn't get players changing just before a World Cup, although I get the sentimental side of someone representing more than one nation.

Agree with this as well. It seems like a very outdated policy.

I quite like DJ's idea. But I'd add that the player should hold both eligible nationalities by the time he/she turn 18.
You don't want someone getting a citizenship after they turn 25 and play for that country for example.

Yeah, would want a few rules with it. But if Alfredo Di Stefano can play for 3 countries then everyone should be able to!

Don't promote too much switching. Only if they are born there or have parents from there and don't get a game for their own national team.

Not stay there 4 years and you can now play for them. That would start to make it more like corrupt domestic football where you can just buy the best players. But I guess money and the media have brainwashed PL fans into thinking that's how football should be or it is boring. International football is the most pure form. Like if you got all F1 drivers to drive identical cars.

Don't let DJ ruin it because he watches Sky Sports too much.

Fair dos if they are unlikely to be picked by one of the home countries.

Good strategy from the Ghanaian FA, the team was atrocious and are lucky they qualified, just that Nigeria was just as awful.
I rather see the best players in the world, hopefully it works out
