I think football as a whole is sick. FIFA corrupt, players with no morales whatsoever and fans now singing vile and abusive songs. Change needs to come from the very top and it will work its way down to the least important people in football, us. Everyone involved in the sport needs to take a good long look at themselves and question if they are doing what they can to make the beautiful game, well, beautiful.
Whilst I cannot condone the singing, when you have role models like Cashley cole, Terry, Bramble etc, what do you expect?
Everyone needs to do their bit before it's too late.
All those Arsenal fans that sang it should be banned! end off!
there is a thin line.
i actually found the "you should have burned in the riots" chants quite funny. unusual for the gooners. only the more sensitive amongst us will be angry at a song like that.
i didnt actually hear the chants about adebayor at the time, because it was just so noisy, but i very much heard "arsene wenger arsene wenger, he was born to play with kids", which is probably on the wrong side of the line.
we should have a NL derby where the crowd compliment eachothers team
"You play quite attractive football, even if it doesnt always work out at least you stick to your principles"
and repeat

There should be action, ban those who chanted at Adey, ban those who chanted at Wenger!
I'm fully against abuse for players & managers! its wrong and it brings the game down! now people are focusing on the abuse and not the fact we beat Arsenal

i can understand people get carried along at the time, with the passion and emotion that football bring's...
but the songs go way beyond banter......
Maybe the fight back has already started.
The Premier league has lost the case regarding foreign tv decoders.
Its time fans united against the powers that be and stop being taken for mugs and every penny. That players and managers man up and accept that they are taking their supporters for granted and do something positive instead of riding high on the gravy train.
Then those that chant vile abuse have less of an excuse even though nothing really warrants it.
Very interesting thread and debate lads. From my side I think it's all down to individual personal taste and sensitivities. For example the burning in riots one really got to me, yet Chronic thought it was amusing.
Another example is that I was as guilty as anyone in the past about singing those wenger songs but since I've had a kid, I find I can't bring myself to sing it. So it's about maturity I guess too plus your own position in life as well as your individual tolerance to bad taste.
Still don't know what was sung about HR. maybe it was nothing and his comments in the press were because his ego couldn't take being left out, even from the abuse.
Anyhow the only thing I really cared about was that we beat the scrum 2-1!!
i personally don't get angry about any of it...
but as 1 team say's,there may be things that hit a nerve with certain people.
for instance,my ex missus, has a jewish background,so she was particularly sensitive to all that stuff...
I think I would say this if I were not a gooner, but how Wenger copes with being called what he is called is beyond me no matter how much he is paid. May be after 15 years, he gets used to it to a certain extent. Could you imagine going to work in another part of town and having that said to you as you do your job of work. Perhaps it is not a proper analogy. The chants about Ade's mum I have always thought were horrendous leaving aside Sunday's chanting about wishing him dead.
What annoys me more than all of this is, when a player who has been on the end of sick chants decides to "give it back" to the fans & celebrate in front of them, the fans then feel hard done by.
If you're going to dish out the stick, then you have to be man enough to take it back, especially as you're one of many thousand, so its a bit cowardly to get the hump when the player gets the last laugh.
Interesting debate but I don't think its anything new - Utd had to endure some sick songs in the years immediately after Munich, our own John White was mocked after his tragic death back in the 60s, Harry Roberts was treated as a hero by some "fans" in the mid 60s and the racist abuse you'd hear at grounds up and down the country was on an idustrial level prior to the 1990s...
I'm not excusing any of it (like 1 team in NL) I actually found the riots "chant" disgraceful and I think its postive that both Spurs and Arsenal are coming together to do their bit...
Butters, I was aware of the song about Harry Roberts, who was involved in the shooting dead of 3 policemen in Shepherds Bush in the mid 60's for the younger members, but I was not aware of songs about John White's tragic death.
In short, i think chants about players' lifestyles etc are okay. Chants about loss of life are not.
Gunnerbegood, unfortunately in the the following season after John died there was a particular vile chant sung by some oppo fans. I don't want to repeat it here but suffice to say its another example of how these types of chants have been doing the rounds for many years now - I don't think the problem is new and I very much doubt we can totally eradicate it from the game....
Chanting about wishing a player was dead is wrong!
Thudd,
Unless its Sol Campbell.
Sorry, not funny.
I've just read that sacking managers cost clubs £99 mill last year and already 5 coaches have lost their jobs and more are under pressure this year. Most managers last year who were sacked lasted just over a year at their clubs. I suppose the enormous pressure that's on coaches and players is trickling down to the terraces too. Supporters are feeling the pressure and are acting accordingly, only a thought.
DJC,
Are you sayin that the vile chanting is because fans are concerned about £99m being paid last year to managers who lost their jobs?
