Lenglet seems to have…

Think he'll do quite well - great on the ball which is a huge plus. And then getting away from Barca and coming to a Conte side will immediately help him defensively

He is infinitely better than Rodon, it isnt even a debate.

It's a strange one as the talk seems to be that we'll sign another CB if we can shift Rodon. With all the issues regarding homegrown players, you'd think it makes more sense to keep Rodon as back up, avoid Lenglet altogether and buy a top LCB that will truly go straight in the team.

I've not seen much of Lenglet so I don't know but the judgement from those, like yourself, who have seen a lot of him, is that he's a bit of a jonah.

What started so well as a window is drifting back into a typical Spurs mould. We're now haggling over tiny details in the Spence deal, which is classic Levy, who appears more preoccupied with 'winning' his poker game with Gibson than he is focusing on providing the players Conte wants. That's how it appears anyway. It's odd how we can be so flippantly generous in our bid for Richarlison, who I think we've overpaid for, and so frugal in our approach for Spence.

Rodon doesnt solve homegrown issues in the CL.

Yeah it's simple just go buy a top LCB - clubs are practically giving those away

How much have you seen him play or is this just blind optimism?

Well there are certainly plenty of able left footed CBs that would get ahead of a natural left back in the same position. As good as Davies has been, he's not the answer in that role. Why not Pau Torres? They want Lo Celso so there's room to do a deal there. Then there's Bremer, Bastoni and Gvardiol. Not all necessarily left footed but if you offer enough, you can get these players, no question.

Rodon has started 8 premier league games in his career. I don't know why people view him as a solid cover option when we have literally barely seen him play. Blind optimism would be thinking that he's better than lenglet

Bastoni - inter said he's not for sale
Gvardiol - Leipzig said he's not for sale

Pau Torres - literally the only reason that people think he'd be a better signing than lenglet is because of the fee attached to the name. He's as skinny as a rake and a disaster class aerially, whilst also not being a great fit for either the outside centre back role (not aggressive enough) or the central centre back role (see disaster class in the air)

Bremer - no better of a passer than Sanchez

Blind optimism?

Its hardly an audatious claim, it would be me like suggesting that if we signed Rodrigo from Leeds he'd be a better player than Troy Parrot.

Doesn't blind optimism work the other way too though. How many of us have actually seen Lenglet play? ABC seems to have seen a lot of him and I trust his judgement. He might not have started many Premier League games but we've seen Rodon in many matches so we can make a clearer judgement of his abilities more than Lenglet. There appears to be a faith in Lenglet purely because he's on Barca's books. Worth reminding that so was Gio Dos Santos and current flop Royal.

Lenglet was very good for sevilla. I don't care how anybody faired at Barcelona over the last 3 years it literally couldn't be less indicative of a players ability as far as I'm concerned.

Every centre back at the club has seen their performances improve under Conte. I frankly don't see a world where he is less useful for us than Rodon who literally never plays

Think the lack of option to buy is also telling which suggests Spurs will likely be back in for someone like Bastoni next summer.

As a stop gap he could be decent but almost 3 years of poor form and lack of confidence is a significant thing to overcome as the example of Dele Alli has shown.

Conte wants him, personally called him to get this done, apparently. That'll do for me.

Probably best to just let him play a few games before making judgement ?

No one would be happier than me to be proven wrong on this, just commenting on what I’ve seen of the player over the past few years. He could turn out to be a world beater and rediscover or go above and beyond his Sevilla form, but that kind of form recovery is rare especially after such a long time, so the signing does leave me a little apprehensive especially when it is in such a critical area of the team.

I respect the determination to moan about something that hasn't happened yet when there's no real alternative. It's only a loan anyway

I think that it is a clever signing and good news for Ben Davies. Fact is that we need cover for Davies and this guy will provide strong competition for him.

If we had signed Bastoni then I think that Davies would have become a 2nd string player immediately but now he has an opportunity to continue his good form.

If he doesn't play well then we have Davies so what is the harm. If he plays well then we have an upgrade on Davies.

It is a signing that gives us strength in depth and provides us with continuity.

With Spurs looking for Versatile CBs.... I'd make a run at Nathan Ake, Sounds like City are willing to sell, decent player with Prem experience

I said this yesterday

why don't we judge him after he's settled in and played some games for us.

I think Davies deserves to keep his place due to his form for us in the last weeks of last season and he was brilliant for Wales also.

We've signed players early with isn't our normal strategy which shows Levy is backing Conte.

I swear some of our lot could be having their hampton sucked by 2 stunners while their numbers come up in tonight's euro millions draw and still moan we ain't signed Spence yet.

Spence news?

Let's not forget, Lenglet has spent the last few seasons training with some of the best technical passing players in the world, day in, day out. He won't be like Sanchez on the ball - who makes me hold my breath in anticipation of something negative happening. Or Rodon. Probably better technically than Dier too. He'll have alot more time on the ball in a three than in a two. Very clever signing in my opinion. We have good defenders but not good football playing defenders. Inters back three are all brilliant defenders AND footballers. Tactical and technical. We are working towards that now. Rodon will be excellent in a team fighting for survival. Sanchez could be ok squad cover, for now.

And.....maybe another Frenchman in the squad will help Tanguy....meh. COYS
