I've read 12 rules etc and seen much of his stuff. Stuff like the lobster 🦞 hierarchy analogy and equating to humanity is at best creative. I have a few friends who are clinical psychologists who think he is a snake oil salesman.

His MO about not being a victim and making excuses (he was particularly fond of the cruel to be kind handling of drug and alcohol addicts) was almost immutable until his own battle with addiction where him and his daughter have gone to great lengths to blame absolutely everyone for his plight, numerous hospitals and clinicians.

The market for selling answers and meaning is huge and he has done well from it. As have many religions and cults. It's opportunism at its finest.

Highly intelligent fella. Don’t think he’s anywhere near as controversial as some have tried to portray him. Before I listened to what he had to say I’d prejudged him based on the Twitter mob ranting, the. I realised that actually most of what his says is scientific.

Couldn't have put it better

He said women without children between 40 and 55 are the most depressed in the world and twitter tried to cuss him out despite the fact its accurate 🤣

I think he has the balls to say things to certain groups that others do not. There is a problem with the far left (particularly in the states).

I don’t agree with everything he says, but he makes people feel accountable for their actions, politics aside this is a good mindset to install into yourself.

Quite enjoyed his book.

I do think you have to put Jordan Peterson the motivational self help author and the political Jordan Peterson into deprecate categories though.

I enjoy his debates with feminists and LGBT folk.

I did re-hab nearly 25 years ago and one thing that is really pushed is personal responsibility. And you are correct about his attitude towards addiction before "poor little Jordy" was too weak to deal with it.
But just recently his stuff on the bible is fekin ridiculous.
And that's coming from a guy who read it cover to cover whilst doing aforesaid re-hab.

It is very controversial to see the objective truth in todays society that panders to certain demography

I suspect most that criticise JP have not taken the time to even listen to what he says or are part of the woke brigade

like every human he has also has flaws but it will be more honest if people can address his arguments. But that will expose that he has really good points

He should have stuck to writing research papers on psychology, rather than embarrassing himself by spouting tripe on sociopolitical and cultural matters he knows and understands little about.

The world would be a slightly saner place had he done so.

Yeah, he really doesn’t though.

I’m sure he’s a respected psychologist and has done at least some interesting work in the field. He’s published a bunch of peer reviewed papers and been cited plenty of times.

But when he actually debates academics and intellectuals in the fields he’s decided to ‘dabble’ in, he’s come up woefully short.

After repeatedly banging on about the dangers of ‘cultural Marxism’ he went to debate Zizek, and it became very clear very quickly that he knew literally nothing at all about classical or libertarian Marxism, about Marxist analysis or Marxist historiography. He had, at best, a high school grasp of of the (supposed) Marxist economic-philosophical basis of the Soviet regime.

He isn’t a scholar of philosophy, or economics, or politics, or sociology.

Outside of his area of academic expertise, his insight holds no more or less value than your average casually interested layperson, and there are good reasons why you’ll only find a minority of scholars in the fields I’ve listed above who take much notice of what he has to say.

This is what keeps me up at night more than anything else, and is the only reason why I’m remotely troubled about the demise of organised religion in the West.

The current crop of leading snake oil salesmen and the counter-culture/conspiracy theorist/alt-right/New Thought etc. cult apparatus hanging off them are already worryingly influential, exceptionally e-literate, and exceptionally proficient marketers; and I think particularly dangerous, not least because there are many of them who will sell literally any message, with literally any level of risk in terms of social ramifications, if they think it’ll make the cash register ching more quickly.

Question to rosso. Have you watched the documentary what is a woman? If so what are your thoughts / observations

And if you want to talk about profiteering maybe you should look at where big money really goes to. Clue is big pharmaceutical pushing drugs and surgery for gender change. Or do you want to talk about why the biggest consumers are women and it is therefore why media pander to them. Or do you want to talk about academics who cannot even define what a woman is anymore but are expected to be taken seriously .

Yeah JP also tried to discuss global warming on JRE, it went down terribly.

I do like his vocal opinions on what it means to be a man in todays society, the difficulties and how he challenges agendas pushed by feminists, LGBT etc.

I encourage everyone who hasn't to please watch the documentary "WHAT IS A WOMAN"
