If you’re just going by goals but clearly that isn’t the only way to rate a striker. You can make a very good case that Martial in 2020/21 was a better striker that worked far better with the team which is vitally important.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yep. More goal involvements per minutes than Ronaldo and also the team performed better. Its quite a basic concept to grasp, but for some reason we have about 5 posters that can't comprehend it.
Well, no , he wasn't. Martial was better in 19/20 than Ronaldo last season in terms of output.

Just to add on here though that I'd be delighted if Ronaldo proved me wrong should he stay.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Me too but I just can’t see it. I’ve no doubt he’ll get 20-30 again next season if he stays but it will likely be a lot like this season.

Martial in 2019/20 was bang average nobody would want him. Right now even mid table sides would not take him. He’s championship level these days.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You’re re-writing history now as well. In 19/20 he scored more from play than Ronaldo did last season.

He also played 11 more games and still scored less
In the context of the OP the answer is Martial
But we all deep down know Martial just doesn’t have ‘it’. In an ideal world we bin off both and bring in Antony or Nkunku

He was bang average in a season that in lockdown conditions. He has no bottle when the pressure is on. He is weak and does not have a winning mentality. It’s confusing how some of you want this coward to start for us.
Do you hate Man Utd so much you want dross to start?

Ronaldo. Obviously. Ronaldo was better last season than martial has ever been in his career
what a ridiculous question.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
But the team wasn't clearly. Are you more bothered about Ronaldo doing well or the whole team?
The answer is neither. The OP determines that this is the 19/20 Martial, well the 19/20 Martial was and is a one season wonder even in this hypothetical scenario. This hypothetical scenario does not say that 19/20 Martial will carry that seasons form for years to come. And even then, did 19/20 Martial contribute to any silverware for the club? 19/20 Martial while'st looking good for a poor United team, would still not get into any other top team, which if we aspire to be, should not include 19/20 Martial, or Ronaldo. 19/20 Martial would score a bundle of goals for one season only, and then after that not be worth playing. I thought top clubs build great teams that last a period of about 5 years? Not one season. 19/20 Martial was not as amazing as everyone makes out. 19/20 Martial performed better than his other seasons during absolutely unique circumstances which may not ever happen again. (Empty stadiums)
If I was forced to pick, it'd be Ronaldo, on the subs bench, then he can force an exit in January and we be done with both.
Ronaldo solves his own problems, so if either MUST play, again still Ronaldo, then we just sell him in January still.
What I will say is that to say Ronaldo ‘just’ scored goals last season is a myth. Someone on social media last week posted a clip where Ronaldo created a good 15-20 great scoring chances for his teammates which they messed up.
Not saying I want Ronaldo to stay as the second someone wants out I usually cut all emotional ties with said player. So if Chelsea buy him and we replace him I’m all good but Ronaldo was certainly more than a goalscorer last season.
Some seem to think individual goals are the be all and end all here. Chris Wood has more PL goals than Firmino over the last 5 seasons. Would Liverpool have been better off with Wood?

It’s disingenuous to use Wood and Ronaldo in the same argument. Ronaldo scores important goals and is always a threat. Remember he was playing most of last season in a team that had actually given up. We always go on about the terrible attitudes our players have had post-SAF but he at least cares. Rather one Ronaldo than 10 of the bad attitude players who’ve stunk up the dressing room over the past few years.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Martial played about 400 more minutes more (nowhere near 11 games) , scored 1 less (having taken/scored 2 fewer penalties than Ronaldo) and assisted 9 more.
Which all supports the idea that Martial of 19/20 would be better for the team than Ronaldo of last season.

I can't help but feel that some of our players don't have the personality to play their natural game when Ronaldo is on the pitch. I'm looking at the likes of Sancho, Rashford and even Fernandes. I mean it can be quite intimidating to play alongside such a character in Ronaldo, especially when you know you'll get an earful if you don't pass to him.
Genuinely believe that some of these players will feel far more at ease if Ronaldo isn't on the pitch. Having said that, maybe it's time these players grow a pair and understand that to get to the top, you can't hide.

A joke question from a joke individual. Trying to play down the goal scoring feat of arguably the greatest scorer this game has ever seen by asking a stupid question. Let's play a game, all his goals were pens... what's your point?
