There really hasn't been a 'best PM in my lifetime'
The one thing I can say is that EVERY Labour government in my lifetime has tried damned hard to bankrupt the country.
Most have had the luxury of inheriting a healthy treasury surplus. The next one won't have that luxury and WILL bankrupt the country and turn us into a real third world economy.
Oh and back to TFA, the guy should be tried for war crimes for his lies that took us to war in the middle east.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Throughout history Labour governments have borrowed less and paid down more debt than Tory governments.
Another false claim is that they inherit good economic situations, the postwar Attlee government inherited the worst economic situation ever faces by this country, and recovered the economy within 5 years, the Tories haven't even got us over the US led global financial crash after 12 years..
In fact prior to the pandemic they had increased the public debt from £1trillion to £1.8trillion, how? Because they are fiscally irresponsible and everytime they made headroom in the budget they cut corporation tax so the ultra rich could make off with pockets full of cash.
They have also presided over the highest ever tax burden in this country.. honestly, how do people fall for this guff? Even in the 80s thatcher wasted the North sea oil windfall by cutting corporation tax instead of creating a sovereign wealth fund like Norway.
She also started to deregulate the banks which led to the 2008 crisis, for which labour gets the blame despite it being American banks that went under.. Brown gets abuse for selling off the gold yet Rishi just cost us far more by ignoring advice to insure the national debt..
How do people still believe the Tories are good economically ffs.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It is just the usual bias toward whatever party they support.
The sheep who parrot 'war criminal' when Bliar's name is mentioned are like performing seals. He embarrassed the left AND the right by uniting the country, winning three landslide election victories and made the country well run and contented. The far right and the far left hate him because they NEED tribalism and hatred.Unless you personaly read every page of the Chilcot report ( you haven't) you have no clue why you are repeating what you have been told to say. Also, the commons ( all parties) voted for the same thing as did the other 32 countries involved in the coalition. Again, if you can name ever leader/politician who was part of the coalition ( go on, I challenge you!) and call each and every one by name a 'war criminal' then you might have a point.

Tell me you know nothing about how the economy works without telling me you know nothing about how the economy works.
Firstly, Attlee DIDN'T recover the economy in 5 years, we were still heavily dependent on US financial aid well into the 50s. Also the economic situation was down to just coming out of WWII, not the government's fiscal policy.
Next, when you inherit a deficit your national debt increases by that deficit year on year until you can create a surplus. With a surplus you can then start reducing the national debt. The last 2 labour government's left us with a deficit and then claim it's the Tories fault the national debt has increased. In 1979 when Thatcher came in, the national debt was 50% of GDP, when Blair came in it was less than 38% and when the tories came back in the debt was running at 65% of GDP.
As for tory handouts to their rich mates, remind me again who bailed out the banks with public money?
Anybody who thinks Labour are even the slightest bit competent financially are severely deluded.
Who bailed out the banks with public money?
Loads of western economies, there was no other choice. Which country was the first to do it, who's actions were followed globally? That would be Gordon Brown, do you remember the Tories voting against taking that action?
I don't.
As for your GDP nonsense, after that 65% was due to a global financial crisis, what is it now? They inherited 65% after 9 years they had increased it to 85% against a backdrop of tax cuts, and post pandemic it's sitting around 105%.
Now it would be foolish to blame them for the pandemic, even though they wasted 10s of billions throwing taxpayer cash at their mates, but not quite as foolish as blaming Labour for the global financial crisis.
As for Attlee, it was a worse economic position, we bounced back far quicker whilst investing in infrastructure we still use today, mass house building, creating the NHS, setting up a social safety net..
The Tories have just cut everything, devalued every social aspect of the country, cut benefits so close to the bone that two weeks after they cut disability benefits the rate that claimants died TREBLED.
Attlee took a worse situation, and fixed it in a far shorter space of time whilst improving the fabric of society, making the country a better place to live. The Tories have done the complete opposite, the country is a far far worse place to live and brexit was a bomb under our economy that the next government will end up taking the blame for.

You don't need to be on the extreme of either side to hate him,
I'm centre left, but put a huge emphasis on economic issues, and economically Blair was right wing.
On the flip side of that there's a poster on this site who's right wing but is far far more concerned by socio economic issues and dislikes Blair because on that front he's very left wing.
Like starmer that puts him in the lib dems ballpark, which is where he should have been an MP, he just hijacked labour and forgot their values.

All this thread proves is that some people believe the shiite they read in the Daily Express & Daily Mail.
One of my relations reads the Mail every day and votes Tory, even though she hasn't got a pot to pi$$ in.

Each and every member of the coalition didn't perpetuate the lie that Iraq had WMD that could be deployed within 45 minutes and that they had modified scud missiles capable of reaching nato bases on Cyprus.
Blair was aware that the 45 minutes only referred to battlefield munitions so kept that bit quiet. He wanted his war and was very economical with the facts to make sure he got it.
It's all in the Hutton report if you care to read it.
