Birmingham did really well to host this on short notice and with covid

It’s weirdly huge here. One of our main channels (7) is almost 24/7 covering it.

About time it was scrapped. Most of the participating nations are only there because we sent men with guns to conquer their country. When the current incumbent of the head of the commonwealth sheds her mortal coils I expect this will be the death knell for the games and the commonwealth. As someone pointed out the wealth all went to a few while most of it lives in poverty.

I've never really watched the commonwealth games since the one in Manchester, 20 years ago

But yes I'll be giving it a watch. Don't particularly like bbc's opening titles though

Can't say I've taken much notice of the opening titles - will pay more attention

England hosting yet the formation with the classic cars was made to look like a Union Jack.

I suppose there will be many nationalistic things to mention/complain about. I'll just enjoy the sport for now.

I think Nigel Farage et al are complaining that the opening ceremony wasn't nationalistic enough.

Cycling is in London - does that mean there are no facilities/velodromes in Brum?
