Would say it's more what Paratici wants on the transfer front. His signings have been brilliant, and he seems to be in sync with Conte.
I'm happy to bow to their better judgement given how successful they've been in transfers so far. Romero, Bentancur and Kulu were three players I knew little about, but they're all top players, so they seem to know what they're doing.
Zaniolo is a very very good player and will be a fan fave - provided he stays fit. The guy is passion personified and has everything needed to be a success. But again, provided he stays fit

How much have you actually seen him play? Admittedly I've not seen a lot but he underwhelmed in a friendly against us and from the clips I've seen and the stats, he's not exactly pulled up any trees. Plus, and you can't ignore this, there seems to be a swell of opinion that he's not all that great. One or two can be wrong but thousands won't be. A large collective opinion tends to be the most accurate one as it creates a mean average.
I watched almost every Roma game last season as the times would often link up with where in at (australia).
I know it’s just serie A but he really was great to watch. Would love him at United but we’re well stocked for that type of player now.

Then there's the absolutely catastrophic signing of Emerson for £30m. He's been dreadful. Now I know he first turned up in a flat back four for Nuno which means he's a right back playing right wing back but to tell you the truth, whilst he's defensively more sound that Aurier, he's absolutely woeful going forward, regardless of whether he's playing RB or RWB. Terrible, terrible purchase in my mind.
Bryan Gil, a punt on a youngster, fine. Again £30m PLUS LAMELA!!!! Are you kidding me? That puts his valuation near 50m and he's not worth a fifth of that at the moment.
Then there's Gollini, who even as a deputy wasn't worth it.
I'd say Paratici had two top signings out of about 5 or 6 in his first summer so he's not been all that great. Surprised you have so much faith in him.

2 goals and 2 assists last season. Given the position is attacking midfielder, what is it that he actually offers to the team because it's clear he doesn't score goals and he doesn't assist either. From the little I've seen, he runs with his head down and doesn't spot an available pass, preferring to continue dribbling by himself and eventually concede possession.
That makes him very much in the Traore mould without the blistering pace, and by all accounts, a hell of a lot more expensive. Plus he wouldn't have the Prem experience in the same way.
There is an argument both ways with this one.
Unfortunately, when you are starved of success and someone comes along with a record of winning things, and improves the team results quite quickly, it is easy to see why we think if he wants a certain player, then he must be good.
On the other side of the argument, I for one would question the value in paying ( up to ) £60m for a CF who we all know won't be a starter. He will get game time, but won't usually start.
If we are laying out £60m, still a large chunk of money, even these days, it should be on someone we need, but don't have.
Danger is, Conte want's him so he must be good.
A bigger example of this is down the road, where virtually their entire fan base will not have anything said against Arteta, even though he has directly ( or indirectly ) spent nudging a billion, and is still nowhere near achieving "the project" and, I think, is now into his 4th year. In fact, he can't even get ahead of Spurs in the PL.
As is always the "proof of the pudding" will be what we achieve over say, the next two years. Clearly he has improved us, but until we see actual end results, I agree we should not blindly follow him without any form of questioning.

Agreed. I think we're all in the "Okay, I'll go with this but I have my doubts" stage. We'll go with Zaniolo if that's who he really wants but does he really offer something we don't already have?
Everyone seems to be of the opinion this has been a great window which no one can really say until we've had time to see these guys in action. I agree on Richarlison, for instance. I think we've done a good job of creating a deeper squad but to my mind do I really think we've improved our first eleven from last year? Only Perisic and Bissouma fall into that category...just. Forster, Lenglet, Richarlison and Spence are all bench dwellers, for the time being. Surely the aim is to buy to make your team better and the person dropping out automatically makes your bench stronger.
I've seen so many Spurs fans say that Richarlison is so much better than Jesus. He's really not. Jesus is a level above, no doubt about it and just because he's moved to our fiercest rivals will not change my opinion on that. I actually think he'll be up there for the Gold Boot next year. this will get laughed at now but let's see come May how things stand. Richy, unlike Jesus, started virtually every game for Everton last year and scored 10 Premier League goals. I know he was part of a poor side but he played every game virtually. Jesus has a similar record but off the bench in most games and in and out of the side. If he plays week in week out he's gonna score bagfuls.
People questioned our January signings.
Thankfully we seem to be getting our transfers more right that wrong under the new regime. Let's hope it stays that way!

Let's see. I'm less convinced of that. Romero and Kulu are the only two major success stories for me. Either way, if we have doubts, we should be able to air them but there's an increased narrative that it makes you a dissenter. The no tolerance attitude makes it sound like they're defending Mussolini, not Conte.

If you don't rate Bentancur as a success then I have to question your opinion.
Say what you want about Conte. Everyone knows he is not perfect.
Romero, Kulu and Bentancur are all top players imo. Absolute bargains.
I don't rate Emerson, but he's obviously a RB and not for RWB. And even then Conte seems to have warmed to him as he improved towards the end of the season.
Gil was a poor signing, but he was £20m + Lamela, so no more than £30m. By all accounts did well in Spain and is talented, but not a Conte player. Again, Paratici signed him for a different manager.
Gollini looked good on paper. Turned out he was hopeless, but was just a loan, and barely played anyway. No harm done.
I like this summer's business a lot too, but can't judge as they haven't played for us yet.
Really don't think you can do too much better than 3 hugely successful transfers in one season. Kudos to Paratici.

I'm Really Happy with Conte/ Paratici. Very pleased with the business done so far. Biggest headche at the moment is getting rid of of the likes of GLC, Winks, Ndombele etc. Not gonna kill them for the odd mistake (Gill, Royal).. It happens !
Will steal something I wrote on a previous post about the need to sign an attacking midfielder (Gives us a plan B/ Different formation but addresses our lack of goals from midfield (Not had since Eriksen & Dele were in their prime.
My major issue is that "Defense first" managers like Conte/ Jose just love guys like PEH too much. The likes of him and skipp don't offer enough going forward for what should be a top 4 side (especially against teams than play for a draw. You can afford to be more expansive when you have the attacking threat we do and you have the protection of 3 CBs.
I'd love us to sign an attacking midfielder, would have been happy with Eriksen, Maddison would be great and takes care of our pathetic set piece situation (Its a joke when you consider how many free kicks Kane, Son, Kulu and Richie will win. Don't know anything about Zaniolo... Im always a bit suspicious of Italian midfielders in the Prem.... Speed of the game tends to pass them by....Happy to be proved wrong !
Here's the bit from the other post
"Conte's 3-4-3 system is great and we are now in much better position to play it. Perisic, Spence, Doc and Sess will all thrive in that system. The problem is that the likes of PEH & Skipp don't offer enough going forward when the have the protection of 3 CBs.
Signing Maddison would give us a great plan B should we need to switch formations.

I think our biggest problem is that last season we didn't create enough from wide areas as we just didn't have the talent in the wing back positions to be the providers. That's improved with Perisic down the left and I think the right would be improved if Spence were given a chance but I fear he's going to be starved of minutes. When nothing is created out wide, the pressure then falls on the midfield to create and again we don't have anyone skilled enough to fulfil that role. All our goals really come from Kane or a combo of Kane and Son. We are the most reliant team in the Premier League on just two individuals. If they go down with an injury we are truly fecked.
Even if, and I don't think we have, strengthened sufficiently out wide, you still need a creative midfielder against defences that play with a 5 in a low block. Brighton last year put on an absolute masterclass in how to play us. Sit deep, cut off the flanks and man mark Kane, even if he drifts into midfield. If we'd had a Maddison type, we could have changed the outcome of that game. As things stand, we have zero plan B so I completely agree with you.

I'm not sure where you're getting the narrative from that you're a dissenter if you have an opinion? There's an awful lot of unjustified moaning on here but when's it been any different.
Bentancur is without a doubt a quality signing and a bargain at the price we paid
Okay, maybe I'm being a little unfair. Bentancur has been good. He has a little of the Carrick about him. I've just got a horrible feeling Conte is going to go with PEH and one other this season rather than going with Bentancur and Bissouma which would be a real shame as they're undoubtedly the more adventurous types. If he goes PEH and Skipp, god help us, especially if it's against a poor team.

Have to disagree. Granted he is very raw. I definitely believe long term he will come good, just whether we invest enough chances and minutes in him for it to be at Tottenham. The guile and movement the lad has can’t be taught.

Thankfully we seem to be getting our transfers more right that wrong under the new regime. Let's hope it stays that way!

I really hope we sign Zaniolo. Nothing like signing a player who splits the fan base 😂

Exactly, Bentancur should definitely be on that list. He'll be key this season. I still think Gil will come good, if he gets to play.
I'm not sure where you're getting the narrative from that you're a dissenter if you have an opinion? There's an awful lot of unjustified moaning on here but when's it been any different.

Bentancur is without a doubt a quality signing and a bargain at the price we paid
posted on 2/8/22
Okay, maybe I'm being a little unfair.
