Yeah we have the most toxic fan base imo (closely followed by Arsenal, both for the same reasons), and I think it mostly stems from the fact that most of those toxic people can't take the fact that we're no longer as successful as we were in the 90s & 2000s. Couple that with those same people growing up with the advent of social media, and now those brain dead monkies can now spew their bile at the touch of a button, and it's no surprise really.
The expectation is that we should still be playing like we're winning the league, and anything else is an offense that should be lambasted. They can't accept the reality that things have changed.
I think (unless something drastic changes societally), you'll see the same thing with regards to Liverpool & Man City whenever their time at the top comes to and end, if it ever does.
All of the above + entitled fan base + unrealistic expectations based upon crazy fees and salaries paid to some bang average players
I don't think much of our fan base overall to be honest. We have some great fans but the majority are morons (or at least the majority of what I see). I tend to steer clear of interacting with United fans, for the most part. To be fair, that extends to most clubs as well.
Football in general is pretty toxic and the fans are pandered to far too much. It doesn't surprise me in the slightest that there is so much abuse, including racist abuse.
You only need look at these board to see some “fans” can’t come to terms the way things are, it genuinely makes their life hell
I think that a large part of it is down to the fact we have so many fans from abroad who don't have a scooby. They tend to be the ones that a I see hurling abuse on social media. I don't pay them any attention. With Ronaldo you also have the Messi fan boys who will abuse him.
With Harry he attracts additional abuse due to the fact he has the largest head in the Northern Hemisphere.

Bit nasty. You're the kind of person this report is talking about.
1) Largest fan base
2) Yes, the players have been THAT bad (whether they "are", let's see)
3) Probably the most disliked club, so that adds to the numbers of abuse
I know I hate people like me

To be fair it’s not Harry’s head that people moan about it’s the gravitational effects of an object that size causing rough seas and tectonic instability, which is why it’s mostly costal based fans that moan about Harry.

That and coastal areas are usually at sea level. Harry's head steals vital sunlight from these communities as he travels around the country in his search for hats n such.

they do not have a scooby doo about whats going on and always seem to have the "well Ronaldo was the best player in the world 5 year ago so must still be at the same level" attiutude
If I’d known Pogba and Lingard were so low I would’ve signed up to twitter

It would be interesting to see where the tweets originate from as well, as non-English fans seem far more vocal and extreme with their views.
Arsenal have a lot of African fans on twitter who seem to think that being a fan means being the one who says the most outrageous things.

I spend a fair amount of time on twitter I must admit and I can tell you now with 90% certainty that vast majority of United fans posting on the platform are from Africa and Nigeria to be exact. Not saying they are making the negative comments but that is where a lot of the twitter "fan base" seems to be posting from.
Which brings me on to a thread I was going to make on here about how United have such a huge African fan base yet don't go there for preseason tours as often and they probably should!
I think it just goes to show United are still the most talked about team in Britain
