Why not ask the players who they want?

This may work for a Sunday league team but professional players have enough power without selecting who their manager is. The plan is doomed to failure, what if influential players started underperforming, would they cause the manager to get the sack. Or wouldn't this increase the say agents have at a club because they could instract their players to have their preferred manager. It would encourage dodgy dealings. The owner/MD should select the manager.

sounds like your sunday league team is run a lot more efficiently than our so called 'professional team'.
As for letting them choose a manager, most should hang their head in shame, the way they let SMc down, none more so than Chambers, for an example check out the tackling back for Birminghams 3rd goal.

I agree within reason, I am not saying its solely their choice but to ask their opinion.

Lets say for arguments sake Camp, Big Wes, Miller all knew Lee Clark well and respect him as an individual, they should say, the MD/Owner picks Mcclaren who lets face it has no respect from 98% of the fans around England, what must the players think knowing that he is not rated around the country.

For me the best managers get on with a dignified job, like Big Sam, David Moyes etc, I can pretty much guarantee the players want to play for them, why else would Big Sam be able to get around 6 decent players to drop a level to play championship football, I dont believe Nolan wouldnt have had a part to play at Newcastle this year, he may not be first choice but he was their captain. This for me proves that a player has influence just like a manager has influence on who he plays for...

A man who fits the bill exactly for what 'dessy' says is Dave Jones, but after the abuse he has taken at our place when here with Cardiff, doubt he would even consider it, shame really.
I personally dread to think who we will end up, but know if we don't get this appointment 'spot on', we'll be back to where we were 5 years ago, in deep trouble and back in League 1.
Lets get it right, preferably by taking Marthur completely out of the equation.

Will arthur listen though!

In a word no, I seriously think he has some vendetta against the fans now!

One of my big gripes this season has been how poorly our more respected players have played. Why would we listen to players like Camp and Chambers who hardly looked bothered v Brum? Chambers has been particularly annoying since McClaren left and should be looking at his own performances since being made captain. I'd love to ask whether he thinks he's been worth the role.

The idea of players having a input into their next manager is fairly bonkers in my book.

Directors direct, managers manage, players play. Start mixing roles with responsbilities is a recipe for disaster.

I am REALLY shocked by the reaction here. I agree everyone has different roles in running a club, but how on earth do you not think its important for the players to have respect for the manager. Doughty has employed his mates who clearly the fans dont like, the players will hear things on the street, words travel fast in any job.

Chairmans dont always know about football, they see things differently, the players know how they want to spoken to, like to play etc.

In the industry I work (recruitment) its very common for the teams to meet the new potential manager who is interviewing to have been referred and to see if there is synergy between them, if for example he rattles the two biggest earners in the team why employ him to potentially lose them, he may only replace them with inferior friends of his.

This happens in any industry this includes football.

All I am saying is ask the players their opinions.

I joined my firm because I rated my manager not because of my MD (Who I dislike most of the time)

Chambers should concentrate on chasing down a striker he's let slip past him rather than throwing his hands up in the air and giving up.
