He was about 2 yards onside so I'm not sure why we are lucky it wasn't given offside?
Your last paragraph is the key bit. There's a lot of new legs and minds in that starting team right now. Despite pre-season, still gelling and adapting to the prem i'd say. Promising signs in the main and 4 points most would have taken before a ball was kicked.
Guy near the corner flag played Rodrigo on.
We were decent value for the lead at the time before they made their changes… and we didn’t. We actually ended up with a higher xg than spurs had against them in their 4-1 ‘thrashing’… and Southampton had a decent home record last season.
Ultimately plenty to be satisfied with about our start but nothing to be complacent about. We’ve played 2 of the likely weaker sides, next up are two of the better ones so interesting to see how competitive we are.

Spot on, Milky, I’d missed him, but he did play Rod onside. Interesting games coming up. I can see us holding out in both of them. They will be a good test of how far we have come under Jesse.
i thought we were the far better team for 3/4 of the game. the lack of subs on around the hour mark was unacceptable for a manager that boasted he knew how to play in the heat. live and learn hopefully.
game
I thought it was honours even. 2-2 was fair result.
And a good point away. Good start to the season.
I agree, the team is still gelling. But, we look to have
something about us under Marsch.
I also don't see why Raz is getting criticized? He's
been a good add. I don't think Ayling will walk back in
to the team either. My big worry is LB and Bamford's
fragility.
Did you watch the highlights or the full match.
For you to say second goal was miles offside, is incredible. He was miles onside 🤦
Looked like home side for most of the game
Chelsea will be tough. They looked good yesterday
I'm not expecting anything against Chelsea except not to lose by more than a couple of goals which would be an improvement on last season. However I do think we can pick up 8 points in the next 4 games after Chelsea which would definitely equate to a decent start.
Time will tell how good a point Saturday's was but I think because Southampton last season finished so poorly many expect them to be cannon fodder this season.
Southampton though up to the beginning of March and getting into the FA Cup 6th round were one of the inform teams and with about a dozen games to go had 35 points or thereabouts so their players probably were guilty of losing focus on the league and complacency thinking they were safe then mixed with the disappointment of then losing the cup game they just were like many sides before them on the beach figuratively speaking.
Southampton never cease to surprise people with their recruitment and academy which has consistently produced and developed world class players and I wouldn't be at all surprised if two or three that played against us in exhausting conditions turn out to be of that ilk.
I can live with being edged out by Chelsea.
Whatever happens, we need to see a good performance where the players are giving their best and Marsch is prepared to shake things up a little earlier than he did against Southampton.

Spot on. There was a defender who was out towards the corner flag virtually on the dead ball line playing everybody on side
Chelsea didn’t look anything special at Everton, but yesterday they were very good…was hoping they would win and take us for granted next week.
Without wishing to sound too unkind...........
1) I dont understand the need to start a new thread when you could have added it into Jontys which is still going strong.
2) Offside has been covered above and you do realise that every Premier goal is checked by VAR for offside?
3) The Xg was 1.41 v 2.00.
Possession was 43%-57%
Corner count 2-5
Looks a fairly dominant away performance that should have warranted 3 points. Their Xg was probably earned in the last 20 minutes. The substitute error has been discussed for 2 days already.
4 Apart from our goals we didnt create many chances? James left foot shot saved. Rasmus losing track of ball with wide open goal at the corner. What else did Southampton muster?
5 Rasmus. For the first goal he was in no mans land. Not in line with his fellow defenders and crept forwards into a poor defensive position with both southampton players ahead of him marked tightly. The creeping forwards leaves a huge amount of space in behind him which Armstrong see and uses. Rasmus blinked and was 5 metres past him. Major part in conceding the goal was the ease at which Rasmus allowed that space and player to get in behind him.
Goal 2. Nothing pump up the ball field from the goalkeeper. Rasmus has to win the first ball but makes a nothing challenge. Southampton win posession in a dangerous area that they really shouldnt have. 2 passes later and its 2-2.
If you add in the Wolves Neto challenge when he was brushed off by one of the leagues smallest players then hes had a nightmare start with a major hand in all 3 goals conceded. Add that to several scuffed clearances, average distribution and no real attacking threat i would say he has started very poorly. It is however, early days and time for improvement. If that does not come then Luke Ayling will be back in the position before long.
Yes we were watching different games!
We were the best team for 60 minutes and came out second half and scored immediately.
The second was miles onside if you watch the replays of it.
Our issue was late subs. We tired and Southampton’s subs took control.
A game we should have seen out and everyone has to learn from it.
I did acknowledge that Rod’s goal was onside, after Milky pointed it out to me. As for other comments re performance stats, I never felt we were comfortable holding the lead. Maybe it’s something to do with being a Leeds fan.
Aaronson looks a good signing.
Aaronson & Adams look good signings.
I think a quick second look showed that Rod was played well onside by a Saints player three or four yards in from the corner flag and pretty close to the dead-ball / goal line. Don't think any of the Soton players involved in the action were aware that he was there, so they were genuinely incensed?
Maybe the tactical idea was that a quick pass out to him would give him time to assess options and he stuck to that plan?
Whatever .. apart from that, I agree with everything you've said, Marschian
i know rodrigo more or less stole struijks goal but i prefer to see him playing in the position we supposedly signed him for, ie a striker. When he plays deep he rarely seems to get into the game but he scored 2 poachers goals against Saints so if Paddys out for a while then i hope we keep him up front rather than deep and maybe with confidence from his current hot streak he will be our main source of goals
I was at bloodstock over the weekend and signal is crap there so couldn't really keep up with things.
However I did see we were two nil up and thought, this is great, only to return later and it all to have gone to pot.
Can't say what game people were watching but its always a poor do of you go two nil up and don't win
