We have spent quite a lot but I’m comfortable that FFP sanctions (if any) will be minor. I can’t imagine them actually banning us from any competitions.

I think all clubs now realise that FFP is a bit of a sham and don’t really worry about it.

Also we have valuable assets like Pepe, Xhaka and Tierney we can sell to offset FFP issues.

UEFAs new financial sustainability regulations (replacing FFP) allow losses of 60m euro over three season. Breaches will first be met with fines. A third breach will see sporting sanctions, so thats probably exclusion from comps etc.

So late in the window I can only see Conte happy to sign former players so that he doesn't have to teach them his tactics during the season. He won't have time for that.

Out of interest would you apply the same logic to every other Manager in the league trying to sign players?

I'd apply it to every manager trying to challenge for the league. You can't afford to give up an early advantage to undercooked signings. Spurs have done this regularly in the past. I'm seeing shoots of improvement just hoping we go that extra mile before the window shuts.

If we don't sign his former players I think the signings will be squad fillers.

We could also sign someone from the prem. Maddison for example would maybe need a couple of weeks to get used to things but he'd be ready to play right away if we wanted.
