In hindsight? It was obvious from the off.

I’ll be honest at the time I think most of us were expecting a replacement

There were rumours (yeah, I know) a couple of months ago that all was not well between Kasper and Rodgers which may have been another catalyst for Kasper moving on in addition to his well documented desire to play in Europe whilst he still can.

Whether he would have been able to influence ‘the dressing room’ in respect of the current situation is a moot point. Again, there were those rumours about ‘the dressing room’ seeing off Ranieri and Kasper would have been a party to that, if there was any truth in it.

Incidentally, it is being reported that not all is well for him at Nice with references to several goals being conceded.

I did follow a link on faceache re Rodgers getting sacked but it only took me to some instagram post by somebody purporting to be Raheem Sterling at The Athletic. It got mildly ridiculed on there.

Incidentally 99, loads have welcomed your return. I presume, possibly wrongly, that you now have a different user name? If so, who did you used to be?

That’s interesting stuff Warwick - I mean you’re right, there’s no guarantee we’d have a better atmosphere but I’d sure be happier with him in goal right now. Danny Ward looks absolutely mentally broken!

I should change my username to ‘The poster formally known as Blackstarr’

Ah. That makes sense: a warm welcome back from me too. Don’t suppose you could influence the return of The Dungeon Master?

As regards Kasper, his influence was massive. You will probably know that I have been a critic in respect of his aversion to crosses and corners but he could not really be criticised for anything else and his description as a City legend is well applied. Ward does look shell-shocked and could be due a ‘time out’ but it’s fair to repeat the observations of Troy Deeney, he did have a lot of shots to contend with!

I also see that Christian Fuchs has come out in support of Rodgers tonight. (BBC website).

Letting Kasper go was inevitable - the player himself wanted to leave (for a variety of reasons) and what's telling is the lack of fanfare he was given despite his tenure at the club.

The frustrating thing with Ward is that prior to this season, there were many calling for him to be given a run in the side. What we are now seeing is a calamity keeper completely devoid of confidence. If this is the Ward he's always been, then shame on the club for not moving him on earlier. If he's a much better keeper than he's currently showing, then shame on the coaching staff for not managing him better.

Perhaps it's time to see what Iverson can do - although I would worry the damage it could do to his mentality given the state of our defence these days!

Oh and welcome back Blackstarr...

Although Ward looks like he's petrified every time the ball comes near the box, that's probably partly at least due to our hapless team selection, tactics and defending!

He did make some decent saves to be fair amongst the dross.

It looks very much to me like Kasper could see the writing on the wall and maybe left before his reputation could become tarnished.

There's are reason why Ward only played a few Premiership games in about 10 years.
As for Kasper and despite what he may say to the media he was done with this team, you could see it in his body language for a least the second half of last season, all the encouragement he would normally handout had turned into little head shakes and shoulder shrugs. Nice offered him a good way out not in England so wouldn't have to play against us, European football, and a nice place to live, why not. i guess he didn't realise they were also carp.

I was one of those suggesting Ward should be given more game time, just as I’m now thinking it’s time for Iversen to step up. But it’s also fair to say that like every other player, the goalkeeper needs a run in the side to get really familiar with how those around him play. Live games are completely different from training ground scenarios. It’s not helpful when some of those around him (Ndidi, Amartey) aren’t central defenders either.

There's an argument that no player should be judged right now until we have a new coaching set-up in place that is designed to actually get the best out of them

Good observations MITLBC. Excuse the abbreviation please. You’re right about his body language and the general lack of leadership that was so evident previously.
I’d also like to live in Nice and its environs as well!

I'd say Ward is better than he is showing given what I saw at Liverpool. I could say that about a lot of City players atm though really.

No he isn’t. I’d seen enough when we lost to Forest last season to know he is League one standard at best. How he’s number one at Leicester is an absolute disgrace

Just for clarification...what was actually wrong with one of the most consistent keepers in the Prem...?

Think kasper just wanted a change and a different way of life, could not blame him after all years of service he gave us.
He was very good for our club, and our club was very good for him, think what he achieved.
Ward does worry me, and i think the best example i can give is that he reminds me of Chris Weale.
He doesnt have the presence of Kasper and therefore does not give us the confidence.
Think we were a liitle spoilt with Schmeichel, he kept us in the cup final and helped give us a day we will not forget.

The Schmeichel sale made no sense on so many different levels:

- A club legend and captain who loved the club and was a strong voice, sold very quickly and under the radar
- A transfer of around £1m which is absolute peanuts
- Sold to a medium-sized club with only Europa Conference football - a far cry from the quality of clubs he had been linked to previously
- No indication of a replacement being lined up
- No up and coming young goalkeeper in the ranks to replace (although Rodgers clearly thinks Ward is an able replacement, which is... problematic...)

When you take all this into account, I can only see it being because of a collapse in his relationship with Rodgers. There were rumours that he was upset with Rodgers last season when he dropped him for the Watford, as this stopped him getting to 150 consecutive matches.

Schmeichel was a huge presence in the club and was widely respected, and he had a strong relationship with Top. Given his rumoured interventions in the sackings of Ranieri and Puel, did Rodgers fear that he could do the same. Though given the way Rodgers is acting now, he is practically begging to be sacked, so probably another unwise decision...

BTW I had no idea that 99 Problems was formerly Blackstarr. Good to have you back. I don't post on here much so not sure who is left, though it seems as if some of the older stalwarts have also left. I only post when things are going badly - might have to change my username to 'The Grim Reaper'

The only way him leaving made sense was that he was on over £100k a week which they wanted off the books and they thought they could get away with his replacements already at the club. Unfortunately the replacement is cack.

posted on 6/9/22

It's clear he wanted to leave, not a lot we could have done about it, we were hardly going to block the move considering his service for us over the years.

It's just scandalous we haven't replaced him.

The only part of Kasper leaving that started alarm bells ringing for me was his comment about fearing Top and his family not being the owners. Seems like a Freudian slip to me.
