Why should they sell him?

Well, because thats how the food chain of football works. Shakkhtar did consider Brentford’s bid in the final day of the window and they will sell if their valuation is met.
We will regret it if we miss out on Mudryk. His ceiling is very high.

Not saying we should or shouldn't sign this particular player but to answer your question... when the money offered is enough to make his club want to sell, it's how transfer tend to work

I am very well aware that if you offer enough you can buy any player. The issue of us not getting him in the first place was a very big difference in valuation. Shakhtar are in the CL where his skills are being highlighted. Keeping him till the summer adds more zeros to his valuation. They won't sell in Jan.

A 40-45 million euros bid in Jan will do it.

If you are willing to go that high why not add another £10m and get a sure bet like Moussa Diaby?

posted on 7/9/22

Moussa Diaby is far from a sure bet.
Muddy looks good, but most Russian and Ukranians flop in the PL.

posted on 7/9/22

Sure bet as any sure bet will be unless you want to shop in the English market where the starting point is £75m these days?

About as sure a bet as Pepe was.

You'd hope the German league is better than the French league. But then Nelson and Sancho did well there so there is always doubt.

In any case I am not sure we are after a wide attacker anymore after recent comments regarding Martinelli's form.

That’s absurd generalisation DJ .I have watched Mudryk clapped off playing against Real Madrid in the Champions League. He has got everything to succeed in the PL.

We should be as we cannot prosecute even the PL and Europa with our present squad, let alone adding Carabo and FA cup.
Smith Rowe cannot keep fit. Matenelli Jesus and Saka will need to be rotated for periods in the campaign.

I watched Shevchenko be the best striker in the world, I watched Rebrov look top quality, I watched Lukzney look a proper defender. Then I watched them in the PL - and bar the rare moment they struggled massively.

Even Zinchenko is debatable tbh, averaged 15 appearances in the PL in 5 years at City before dropping down to us.

a) Do you see Arsenal spending £45m+ on a rotational piece?

b) How do you persuade a player who is worth that much to agree to sit on the bench and not be a starter?

c) Martinelli is 21. ESR is 22. Mudryk is 21. That means they would be in direct competition and not playing would actually hurt their development. Which is why we send players on loan. How do you square that.

I think we were looking for a wide attacker (incl Raphina) because Arteta was not confident that Martinelli could make that position his. Always rumours that Arteta saw marti as a striker. Marti has started the season very well. And maybe those doubts have dissipated.

a) Not much more than we paid for Vieira.
b) You don't. I'm sure a player knows there will be competition and it is up to him to force his way in
c) Martinelli can play up top, ESR can can #8 or #10, and all 3 can play on the right. Competition is healthy and natural.

He was excellent yesterday. Let's hope Liverpool get interested in him. I do think he is more suited to a counter attacking team like Utd than a possession based team.

And the player who I believe he will replacing is 30 in a few days and will have one year left on his contract next summer when he will be almost 31. I similarly believe Danilo in Jan to replace Partey makes logical sense in 2024.

Players always ask the manager before they sign what their plans are for them. You said the same thing when Ramsdale signed when it was clear to everyone that Ramsdale was being bought to replace Leno. And thats what happened very quickly.

Jesus and Eddie play as striker. Its always about playing time and now that Marti is scoring goals and contributing in general play what would be the point of moving him from the wing at this point? Maybe in a few years you could revisit.

Lets see if Arteta still targets a wide player. I don't think he will.

I still think we need a big bloke to counter teams who sit back. Which is why I wanted Osimhen and Gakpo. But I doubt we will pursue one.

------
It took Ramsdale time to get into the team and he was never told he was undisputed #1, he made the position his own by performance. As Mudryk would have to do if we did sign him

Its immaterial that it took him a few months. Ramsdale knew he was being bought to replace Leno. The latest comments from Leno suggest he knew that to.

I have explained why I believe we won't be buying a wide attacker as long as Martinelli doesn't regress. But we shall see.

Hopefully we sneaked a clause into his contract to give us first option.
