Let's face it, most people are pretty indifferent about the Royal family. For me, their births, weddings and deaths are as insignificant as they would be for a stranger.... because that's what they are really. Strangers.
I cannot get my head around why the whole nation stops.
I get that it's a policing issue but can someone tell me why a group of policeman can't do a job on Saturday as well as Monday? I mean, how much prep do you need? How much policing does a football game also need? Can't we strip it back and do a skeleton staff system on games less volatile? Spurs have no beef with Leicester so the numbers required aren't as great as they would be for a Chelsea or Arsenal match.
They assumed football fans would disrespect the tributes last weekend and now they assume football fans are going to need heavy policing this weekend. There's a class issue at play her.
I'm already done with all this and we're only about 5 days after her death at this point.

He's brilliant! Couldn't have put it better.
If the policing issue is such a problem and fixture pile-up potentially an even bigger one, why aren't we reverting to games behind closed doors during this? We managed it for an entire season during Covid. Just reimburse the fans for the tickets and play the game. If there's no one there, there's no need for policing.

Majority doesn't mean right. In fact it invariably means the opposite. Anyway, there's no way the majority want this total blackout of events, this complete shut down of services. It's nonsense. Try speaking to people about it rather swallowing the bullshiiiiiit the BBC are currently serving up. What they're putting out doesn't actually reflect what real people are thinking.

Someone's got to pay for that the club's are well within their rights to say hang on we are losing revenue through no fault of our own. The clubs pay for policing if the police can't provide the service then the government need to re-imburse the club's for lost revenue. There's no way the government will do that so they will say just re-schedule.
When I see the millions taking part in this whole thing, this grief tourism, it really makes me question democracy.

exactly , far too much being made out of two games getting postponed. If you cant understand why then your a fool. You dont need to agree with it (I dont) but its hardly that big a deal or that hard to get your head around why its being done.
games get postponed all the time. It used to be extremely rare that you would get through a season without a couple game being re-scheduled. Games getting moved it part and parcel of the game. Every team that plays in europe is subject to games getting re-arranged
This whole fiasco, and it cannot be described as anything other than that, is indicative of not only how/what the authorities prioritising things, but also how low they feel it is acceptable to treat the money spending football fan.
We all know how useless the police are at managing things, given you only need to be on a main road somewhere and see how they deal with traffic management whenever there is a road crash. It always just goes to sh*t.
In terms of this whole subject of canceling football, whilst I, and probably most people would agree matches that may have been scheduled for the day of the funeral ( 19/9 ) should be rescheduled out of both logistical and moral reasons.
But, the way the rest of it has been handled by the FA, the Chairmen and the police authorities has been breathtakingly poor.
A simple question to any of these, asking how some sports are perfectly fine to go ahead, but not football, simply cannot be answered with any logical answer.
First, for me there was absolutely no justifiable reason to cancel last weekend's games. Absolutely none. This decision, apart from being taken off the cuff with no consideration for the millions of fans, but on the basis that we are ALL "grieving" and simply cannot function because a 96 year woman, who virtually none of us know and certainly not related to, dies. That in itself is really insulting and makes unreasonable assumptions about how I, and millions of other feel about her death.
Don't know about you guys, but I felt sad for about 10 minutes and then, like any other normal person, moved on with my day to day life. I did NOT turn to blubber and feel like I couldn't possible carry on.
Secondly are we really saying our police force, who are responsible for law and order in this country, do not have the basic resources to manage a football program some 10 days before a state funeral ? and I knew the rules are such that it is popularly know that any state funeral is usually undertaken 10 days after the death. So if I knew this, why didn't the various organisers ?
So are we looking at both the UK criminal fraternity and any interested overseas criminal organisations now knowing it would not take much to push our police force over the cliff and do what they wanted ?
For me there was absolutely no real justification for last weekend's cancelled fixtures going ahead. If respect was an issue, the clubs and the crowds could have easily shown their respect before the game kicked off.
Now we are inevitably looking at more cancellations this weekend, whilst nearer to the actual funeral. Are we really saying the police can't police a match somewhere in the uk on Sat/Sunday and not be able to get to London for the Monday's funeral ? really ?
My view is this weekend will also go to sh*t, with the usual domino effect of one match being called off, probably the Chelsea/Liverpool game, and the rest will quickly follow.
Personally I had no plans to go to a game this weekend or last weekend, but do forward my condolences to anyone on here who have not only lost money, but had their arrangements disrupted. Just a shame you won't get the same recognition from the FA, Police or the FA any time soon.

Is this really the will of the people? Is it? Do people really want services and entertainment completely shut down to send off a 96 year old lady. The BBC would have us believe it is but I really don't think it is. Most people, myself included are indifferent to the Royals. I'm by no means an anti-monarchist but neither am I inconsolable with grief drowning in a sea of tears. That's really for the family to do, not a bunch of old dears that fancy a day out taking part in grief tourism.
I get that this is a policing issue but my question more is why? Why, in this day and age, do we pretend to have a medieval devotion to royalty when it's pretty clear that's a pretty archaic view of modern Britain. We've moved on. The problem here is tradition. We're treating Royal deaths with the same blueprint, the same template we've used for centuries. There are echoes here that align in a similar way to America's 'right to bear arms' - the constitution that holds them back, that stops them making progress. In short, they're applying laws from a bygone age just as we are with royalty. Times have changed and the way we respond to their deaths should too.
This is not just about football. It's bigger than that. There's something darkly dictatorial about how this has all played out. You mustn't go here, you mustn't go there, you must sit with the others and cry. Go on, cry dammit. I'd bet that the majority feel the way I do but there is this strange code of silence where dissenting voices must be closed down. It's completely absurd.

That’s my issue, only one narrative is allowed, the one being promoted relentlessly by the BBC and the print media.
I get that it’s historic and she’ll have a state funeral, but do we need this hysteria 24/7. It’s pro monarchy propaganda.
Football matches should have been played, I’m sure the Royals would have loved seeing thousands of fans clapping and singing for the late Queen and new King all across the country.
Obviously cancel the Liverpool and Celtic games as they’re just to55ers.

Particularly when you factor in that, in Ukraine, something historical and utterly amazing was taking place, yet it was almost impossible to find news of this on the BBC website or app. Apparently we'd rather hear was Sheila, a former dinner lady, thinks of the Queen.

The majority of people are pro the Queen.
Not necessarily pro the Royal Family but definitely pro Her Majesty.
Just suck it up and stop complaining when the majority gets its way

what in the name of grovelling serfdom is this?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Serfdom?? Great word. Almost Cambidge/Oxford educated!!
The problem with minority opinion is they preach.
Vegan , religion, flat earthers, Labour supporters, Environmentalists, in fact all conspiracy theorists.
Thank God there are still intelligent people on this planet or we would all be fooked

---
Someone's got to pay for that the club's are well within their rights to say hang on we are losing revenue through no fault of our own. The clubs pay for policing if the police can't provide the service then the government need to re-imburse the club's for lost revenue. There's no way the government will do that so they will say just re-schedule.

exactly , far too much being made out of two games getting postponed.
