Reflections Cambridge v Rams
Well was there any difference ???
For me :
1. We pressed more - and for the whole match.
2. We played with a back 3
3. We cut out the tippy tippy at the back
4. The passes were more forward rather than sideways and backwards
5. We played with a front 2
6. Midfield was more adventurous / on the front foot.
7. Overall we looked better balanced.
With regards to the game itself I gave Collins MOM. Good all round play and endeavour. Never gave up.
Defence rarely looked troubled and Wildsmith controlled his area well.
Midfield were energetic and we had a good bench.
Well done Derby. Cheers.Terry. UTR

Extended highlights on You Tube folks and post match interview from the gaffer worth a listen as well.
Dear all, really enjoyed reading the comments yesterday and many congratulations on Vidal's hole-in-one and a multitude of mums' birthdays.
Very interesting day yesterday, ending a bit later than I expected, but 'them's the breaks' as a great man once said.
Quite a change in style yesterday, wonder what 2W would have said ?. We were stronger than Camb all over the pitch really. That doesnt mean to say it was ever easy. Walking across the cow field to the game was a hint to the nature of it, agricultural in parts, and the ball spent a fair time in the air. We won the majority of our battles, but were never fully in control. Cant question the effort and desire though, stand-out players for me were the much-maligned Collins and the dynamo that was JK38. I think this style will suit certain players and it certainly suited them.
If I had my time again (unlikely) I would write a thesis on the psychology of goals. There were grumblings among the faithful after 44 mins, but that goal understandably changed the mood. The 2nd capped the whole thing and everyone was ecstatic for a first away win. Couldnt quite bring myself to sing 'PW's barmy army' just yet though. Felt like being a bit unfaithful to a former lover and might take a bit more time and a few more wins.
Met a really lovely compatriot of Igors (Camb fan) while waiting for the long-delayed coach. He said that we were were far better than them on the day, but not as good as some other visiting sides this season. That brought me to the conclusion that this method will be ok to get out of Lg1, but, as PW has found previously, we will need other elements to our game to progress further.
The cup game v Liv will be an interesting test with a great following & atmosphere. Unfortunately, after the uncertainties of yesterdays travels, I dont think I will be committing to the journey
PS Osula looked strong & dangerous when he came on.
Seemed to run out of gas (topical) after 15 mins though.
Great song for him to the tune of 'Tequila'. Earworm like the Sammy Winnall song
Cheers Ang. Did NML and Barkhuizen get forward a lot? It's hard to imagine them as defensive full backs so it will be interesting to see who fills those positions in other games. I would have thought that Chester and Cashin would have a lot of covering the wide positions to do which might then expose Davies in the centre. If it's going to be ultra-high tempo then we are going to need the squad. Smith and Thompson will probably get a fair amount of time on the pitch. With the strength we have in midfield we ought to be able to keep up the energy levels all game. A winning start is really important to get buy-in from everybody so it could hardly have gone better.
Not for me, Vidal, they were often rooted to the HW line and, as a consequence, I dont think we saw the best from them, but thats the system eh?. There seemed to be acres of space behind their RB, but Barks rarely got into it. Cashin was often short of a target to pass to apart from Collns and a very tight midfield. In the 2nd half, they made more progress (NML particularly, as he was on our side) and caused Camb problems. NML looked like he could have had their LB on toast, but was restrained.
Strange to see Cash (& Chester?) taking throw ins throughout. We were quite happy to use Cash's long throw into the box, which we've hardly ever seen before?
You dont get that sort of analysis from Scouse, just how many pints he supped pre-match & who was 5hite
Super breakdown and summary Ang đ.
In fairness Warne hasn’t had much time to stamp his authority on matters and fair play give Liam credit for all he has done for the club.
The important thing yesterday was getting that monkey of our backs and that was scoring, a clean sheet 2 goals and for the much maligned Collins was the bonus.
đđ to Vidal on his hole in one, must have missed that on the thread as I came late to the party.
Hope you got the drinks in đŤľđť
Re M-L and Barks as wing-backs, I wonder if this is to be PW's preferred selection or if it was dictated by playing away and at Cambridge.
I saw it much as Ang did except that M-L got forward more in the first half and Barks more in the second. Again that may well have been deliberate, ie do not have both WBs bombing forward all the time.
I thought Chester looked a tad exposed in the second half but still was rarely beaten. I do worry a bit about the possibility of a really speedy left-winger being given too much space unless M-L is instructed to defend more and there is the problem - what a waste of potentially lethal attacking talent. It would perhaps not be such a problem on the other side as Cash is more pacey and on Saturday he did a lot of covering on his left flank.
It was great to see throw-ins taken quickly and sometimes with some length on them. I reckon both Chester and Cash are capable of long throws into the oppo box. Not pretty but it's something we have not done since Delap and it could be useful at times.
Also great not to have to see continual passing back or sideways. Of course it was necessary at times but was always done with purpose and confidence whenever it did happen. Similarly I do not recall one goal kick being funneled between Wildsmith and Cash or Curt - no messing, just straight down the pitch.
At times this led to some frenetic non-pretty stuff but hey, an away win and two goals!
It will be really interesting to see how tactics evolve over PW's settling-in period.

Yes, agree with that assessment, Chicago.
I found it highly amusing in the first half (first goal kick?) when two of our defenders lined up for a short one and Joe (W) waved them forward to a huge cheer from the away fans
