What’s happened to you lot, you looked good the first couple of games and your home ground looked like a fortress. Now you look like absolute cannon fodder who could challenge the Prem lowest points total.

That's a very good question; last season Cooper took over a team bereft of confidence under Chris Hughton & coached a top two performance out of them. The coaching & recruitment team got it exactly right; this year not so much.

Perhaps the owner has given the squad another one of his pep talks?

The only time we’ve won is with Niakhate starting. That was game 2 against West Ham.

He was injured for the 3rd game, which we drew at Everton.

Game 4 we played reasonably way against Spurs, without Mangala who was injured.

Game 5, in our demolition against City, we made 5 changes to game 1’s starting XI. We also changed formation and gave full debut’s to Freuler, Kouyate and Lodi. We lost 6-0.

Games 6-7 we switched off in both games and twice let in 3 goals in a matter of minutes. Losing both narrowly, 3-2.

In game 8, we tried a new formation and lost 4-0.

Game 9, we dropped Lodi after 4 straight defeats. We stuck with the new formation. Toffolo came in as did Aurier, Dennis, Freuler and Yates. We drew. 1-1 with Villa.

Game 10 saw Williams come back in. We lost 1-0.

Our best XI (by points won v games played) looks like this:

Henderson - can’t distribute the ball - started all 10

Worrall - not starting
Niakhate - injured.
McKenna - started all 10.

Aurier - featured once.
O’Brien - 4 points from 6 games
Mangala - 4 points from 2 games - returning from injury.
Toffolo - 5 points from 6 games

Lingard - was unfit. 4 points from 6 games.
Awoniyi - missed a lot of sitters. 4 points from 6 games.
Johnson - 5 points - started all 10. Terrible form.

I enjoyed researching that! Always nice to know you can escape reality by fiddling about with numbers 🤣

Something is going on behind the scenes methinks to unsettle the players.
I didn't expect a Steve Cooper team to surrender and concede 3 goals in 5 minutes as has happened.

I expected us to be difficult to beat, while not scoring many.
The City game can be considered an outlier, the results against bottom teams & Bournemouth & Fulham are of more concern.

We won`t get anything from this game.
They were always better than us in the Championship!

Can we get Djed in the January transfer window.

Honestly don`t think these players will improve.

What is Wayne Hennessey’s distribution like? I am sure there is no chance of him playing but if we can’t even build from the back I fear we will just keep being pinned back for most of the game….

Have you ever worked in a place where there were no arguments or disagreements? Maybe sackings and suspensions too. People who don't argue when they think something is not right probably don't care.

DJed is probably happy picking up his wages and waiting for his chance. Probably run down his contract, and then move on

Good team, Chile. I'd be very happy if that was the starting eleven tonight

I actually think potentially that is our best team. We need Mangala and Niakhate badly. There is no way we can play with 5 at the back without those 2 I don’t think.

We need to get a win somehow and get some confidence. At the moment we are so poor in the ball that we can barely muster an attack let alone any sustained pressure. It’s why we are so easy to beat. We rely on counter attack but it falls down at the first ball. So then not utilising players like Lingard and Johnson.

If we can sneak a draw and get a bit more of the ball tonight then that would be a great start. But we will need a lot of luck for that. We need Brighton to be poor and miss chances, we probably need to take a lead at some point too and then hang on. We need the crowd to turn a bit. We can’t start letting them walk through us and smell blood. It’s a really tricky ask though when confidence is so low.

I suspect we will lose as a right on are so solid. Much worse teams then them have taken us apart without really trying. I hope I am wrong 🤞

No recognised striker up front, MGW, Lingard and Johnson starting, just can’t see where the goals are coming from. Some of the back four McKenna, Williams, Cook in particular must be close to suspensions. I guess we are playing for a point, but can’t see us keeping a clean sheet. 2-0 Brighton, though I’d love to be wrong. We do have 3 strikers on the bench, don’t see the logic of not starting at least one of them. I sincerely hope Coops has got this right as we have two of the toughest games of the season coming up. More hope than expectation and definitely fingers crossed.

No recognised striker up front. It's been like that all season. Well most of it.

On the plus side, I'm pleased to see Mangala back. Aurier has looked decent, so it's good to see him fit. However, I find it strange that we don't have a recognised leader of the forward line, particularly as Gibbs-White has been tasked with a lot of tracking back in the last couple of matches. So, is Johnson leading the line? I do hope this isn't going to become attack v. defence.

Just a matter of time…

Hopefully I will be proved wrong, but why is it every time we pass the player is already under pressure, we go forward but seem to have no clue what to do….

posted on 18/10/22

Well…no shots at all, but at least it’s 0-0.

I think the pressure starts with Henderson. Although towards the end of the second half he released it early and we looked for a nano second, the team of old.

One sheet goal is all we need.

posted on 18/10/22

They were ok that half. Brighton still favourites, but it's an improvement on Saturday I think. Maybe see a striker soon. Johnno may not last 90 minutes.

posted on 18/10/22

They've had plenty off possession without creating too many good chances. We are playing a dangerous strategy, but with the personnel out there it's what we have to do.

Players are slowly starting to feel, and the team is starting to look settled.

We are playing out from the back the way we did under Warbs.
An accident waiting to happen.
