Glad he’s not out for too long, will be along month without him though
Good news for him but not for us.
I hope Lindelof cements his place with Martinez. He gets a lot of stick from our fans but I am a big admirer of him. Though heading is his weakness, he is a solid defender with a great passing ability.
Big loss as he's been excellent in partnership with Martinez.
What I hope now that we're a couple months into the season though is that the system and the style starts to take precedent over the individuals within it, meaning that hopefully Lindelof can come into the team now that it's more settled and looks more assured of itself on and off the ball and the impact be less noticeable.
Where we've not been so good collectively in the past has meant that we've relied on the attributes of individual players rather than the team's shape and style, so losing player X had a big impact.
When City & Liverpool have been at their best in reason the seasons, the machine as a whole has been functioning really well, meaning they can chop and change a few players here and there and more or less maintain the same output. We've not really been able to do that since probably the last really great Fergie team.
At least the fixtures turn a little for us for this run without Varane. Hopefully he doesn’t rush back for the WC though and make it worse. From a selfish point of view he’d be out until it’s just too late to go to the WC then get a good rest, but for him it would be a huge disappointment.

Yeah, although I suspect Antonio and Mitrovic will be licking their lips at this. Should be winning the 3 prem games regardless though.
The Sociedad game will also be a pretty important one, where we'll likely need to win by 2 goals.

Yeah they will be, but these are games we really should be pushing high and it will be about how we play at the other end.
It’s annoying as he is our most important player imo. He really nullifies pacey forwards.
Lindelof has been decent next to Martinez. Fingers crossed nothing happens Martinez.
Good news for France. Terrible news for us. I can’t believe I will have to endure Lindelof until after Christmas. People focus too much on Maguire, but Lindelof is worse.

Or for the next 3 weeks, if you want to be less melodramatic about it.
Maguire is probably a better defender than Lindelof, but he’s also less able to slot into the way we’ve been trying to play and get away with it.

Lindelof has actually been good this season when he’s played.
My main hope while Varane is out is that Casemiro will provide better protection than the defence have had before him.
So that means he'll get injured at the World Cup then. Will hopefully see him in a United shirt by March

Think France will flop a bit. They should get out of the group but maybe he’ll only play four games.
Big loss as he's been excellent in partnership with Martinez.

There has been an improvement lately in the way we've defended as a team. We've been better at keeping sides at arms length and conceding less chances. Fingers crossed this carries on without Varane.
Hopefully we can maintain this while creating more and better quality chances at the other end too.
If he’s only just fit in time for the WC he may not start, who else do they play at CB? Saliba has been good.

Saliba
Upemacano
Badiashille
Kounde
Konate (although he's normally as much of a sicknote as Varane)
They've got enough options without him. Imo if he's touch-and-go they'd be wise not to risk him using up a squad space, particularly as you can't really rely on him staying fit for the duration of the tournament anyway. But depends how important they view him I guess.
Back to being horrid in defence and needing 3 goals to win a game again then…

Thankfully we’re both clinical and well-stocked in attack.
