Didn't look offside to me. When its taking them 4 minutes they are looking too hard. The angle they then showed claiming it to be offside was a strange one too.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well exactly, they clearly went in with the mindset to disallow it and then took 4 mins to work out how - load of bollox and any questionable VAR decision should be explained to both sides post match in the report, that way clubs can be assured that these VAR refs are held accountable for schitts decisions
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It wasn't particularly questionable. At the moment the ball was played, Harry Kanes leg was ahead of the ball and all the defending team (bar the goalkeeper). The direction of the ball doesn't matter, and the ball deflecting off a defender also doesn't matter (although he would have been onside if the defender had been judged to have deliberately tried to play the ball instead of it deflecting off him).
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Oh I agree completely, it was a clear cut case of offside that’s why they only took 4 mins to decide
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It took too long but that doesn't make the decision incorrect. People often spend far longer than necessary on things that they want to make sure they get correct.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Like I said, your saying it was a clear cut offside but it took a qualified referee with boat loads of technology at his disposal to review the incident 4 minutes to make a decision. It does not speak much to his competency if you ask me - 4 faaacking minutes, if he comes out and says 3 minutes of that was him having a Brad Pitt then fair enough, otherwise he sounds like he might have decision making issues - the Khunt
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Who knows. Certainly felt like it was clear enough that it shouldn't have taken that long. Presumably, when it is an important decision in your career you might choose to spend a little extra time double-checking your workings to make sure that you don't get the outcome incorrect.
Have you never decided to double check something before you make an irreversible decision?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Indeed I have. However, when my boss comes to me and says is this figure correct - go back, I check and I either say yes or I amend it. I do t sit their pouring over every faaaacking angle of my spreadsheet trying to look for an error - I would lose my job if I took an amount of time proportionate to what the VAR ref took.
That’s what I want to see in his report - why did it take you 4 faaaacking mins when a couple of Liverpool fans on JA606 could see it was offside straight away without needing a replay
Correct decision. Pity its 4 mins but that can be added on in extra time whats the problem?
Think it was really harsh. Premier league VAR I think would have allowed it, which is still a fundamental issue with VAR in general.
I was at our game in the CL a few years ago when Aguero’s goal got ruled out so know exactly how the fans on the stadium would have felt after that, that is it at its most impactful.
I get the argument to an extent around it’s implementation but it’s had such a detrimental impact on the match going fan, I’ll never be a fan of it.

If my boss queried a figure and asked me to double check then I would go through the full process of obtaining that figure again, particularly if it was going to lead to an irreversible decision.
They should absolutely be looking to speed up the VAR process. The idea that there should be a hard 1 minute limit is ridiculous and completely defeats the purpose.

But I would check my sums once, if I am getting the same number I would probably query with my boss what their concern is as I have done it twice and hit the same figure.
I wouldn’t spend 4 weeks going through every inch of the calculation just to see if I could get it different
Kane was ahead of the ball IMO, or at least part of him was.

Where have you got 4 weeks from. It took 4 minutes.
Your issue is with it taking 4 minutes. Are you saying you would go back and check through everything, within 1 minute of your boss asking you, and if you couldn't then you would just say it isn't clear and leave it without finishing checking?
Because that is the level you are demanding of VAR.

"One of the many intricacies of the offside rule attempts to clarify what happens when a ball comes off a defender and finds it’s way to a player that was in an offside position.
So, can you be offside if the ball comes off a defender? Yes. If the ball is deflected off a defender or the defender makes a deliberate save, it’s offside. Only when a defender deliberately plays the ball is it not considered offside."
*******************
Kane was offside when Emerson played the ball in, and it deflected off a defender to Kane. But that defender did not deliberately play the ball.
The VAR decision was to determine
1. was Kane in an offside position, (yes) and
2. did the defender deliberately play the ball that deflected to Kane.(no).
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yep and it was so clear and obvious that it took a UEFA level ref with endless replays 4 mins to make a decision

----------------------------------------------------------------------
So when your boss comes and asks you to double check if something is correct you either confirm it is correct or amend it. How can you possibly amend it accurately (or confirm it for that matter) if you don't actually go through and check the sums that allowed you to arrive at your figure?
If my boss queried a figure and asked me to double check then I would go through the full process of obtaining that figure again, particularly if it was going to lead to an irreversible decision.
They should absolutely be looking to speed up the VAR process. The idea that there should be a hard 1 minute limit is ridiculous and completely defeats the purpose.

Re read, I literally said I would go back and check????

This is the detailed explanation as to why the goal was ruled out. Harsh, but they've applied the rules correctly.
