It's part of a trilogy, the other 2 are just as brilliantly named Defender! and Sweeper!
Pretty cool that he got IAmMe to do the cover art for them.

I really want to read them. I've got Michael Flatley's autobiography purely to see the cringy lines in that too.

Love this bit:
Amid all these digressions, there is little room for plot, and Bruce wraps up the entire story of STRIKER in the final 4 pages, which see him unmask the killer, steal a weapon, evade his own murder, and seal promotion against Fulham.
He does, however, find time for his character to rebuff the advances of a Terry, a "lisping, mincing, one-dimensional queen" who owns a nightclub, deals drugs and has a "glad eye for middle-aged football managers".
-------------------------------------------------------------
Not very PC.
By PC, I mean Politically Correct, not Police Constable.

The Quickly Kevin podcast is generally well worth a listen. One of my favourites.

I listened to the Lee Sharpe on the other day, some good bits in it. Beckham at one of Lee Sharpe's fan club parties calling him a legend and that he'll never have something like this for him.
Shannon's office was small. There was paper everywhere. On his desk was a PC. A personal computer, not a police constable"

Manager of Mulcaster United.

If you like Michael Flatley have you seen/heard of the new film that he wrote, directed, starred and produced? He plays a fedora wearing secret agent who sleeps with beautiful ladies and fights big muscly men, it looks incredible.

I think Steve Barnes also did a stint at Leddersfield Town. Striker was released in 1999 when Bruce himself was managing Huddersfield Town

I sincerely hope the rest of the book carries on in this vein.
"The manager and his players waited in the tunnel. Not the Channel Tunnel, but the tunnel that leads from the dressing rooms to the pitch. Trying to downplay his nerves, he winked at his coach. Not the big thing in the car park that had driven the team to the match, but his assistant, Terry."

Saw the trailer a few weeks ago. Looks, er, cracking! I'm not a fan of his as such but some of the quotes in his book are hilarious. I may go through some of the best ones on a different thread over the weekend.
I had a good laugh at this bit of the review:
"There are also oblique references to his Premier League-winning time at Mulcaster United, and stints at such boundlessly imaginative fictional locales as Carlwell, Threshfield Town, Bridesford United, Doningford and Girlington. One feels Bruce goes well beyond the call of duty in creating this elaborate Rail network of fictional northern cities like a pound shop Westeros filled with black pudding and fags."

Finding words to describe this book is difficult, especially as I am not myself gifted with the innovative, nay - ground breaking vocabulary, orcrafty word play/poetry of Bruce.
That Bruce has spent so much of his life on the football pitch and not behind his typewriter should be a tragedy for literature - but he skillfully, stealthfully works his years of experience on the pitch into this crime novella resulting in a story which will delight fans of murder and lower division football alike.
Looking for a comparison? Nothing bears comparison, though think Graham Greene / Harry Harris lovechild and you are somewhere near. The speeling mistakes are alright after a bit you don't notice them, anyway you'll finish the bloody thing in half an hour, you'll never forget it though. I had to show this book to my mates, it's unbelievably funny for me to imagine Steve Bruce actually writing this thing, you have to read it to believe it.
Buy this book I think some of the money might go to Huddersfield Town, and you will never look at Bruce the same way again.
