I prefer Floyd's Wish You Were Here to Another Brick but that's partly for sentimental reasons as at the time I was an 18-year-old cadet in the Merchant Navy and thousands of miles away from my girlfriend.

...but apologies for digressing from the OP. Most hated songs are probably anything from Stock, Aitken and Waterman which were commercial rubbish. There were three of them. One of them must have known that they were producing rubbish but they made a fortune and I'm poor so I guess they got it right.

How can anyone dislike a song that contains these inspired lyrics:

Twistin' 'round the fire
Havin' fun
Bakin' potatoes
Bakin' in the sun

?

I find it harder to think of songs I hate than ones I like, probably because I don't listen to songs I don't like, which makes sense, I think? When "New Wave" and Punk started I hated it but then The Stranglers came out with Golden Brown. Classic. After a few years of the new stuff I began to appreciate the effect it was having on a stale music industry.

Coming off an epic three album run of monster proportions (Born to Run, Darkness on the Edge of Town, Nebraska), Springsteen’s The River contains a butt-clenching amount of sheer vomit.

Sherry Darling, I Wanna Marry You, I’m a Rocker… Just three examples of many that you should never listen to whilst driving or operating heavy machinery.

Just my two cents.

I was waiting for that comment. But written during Darkness on that home cassette recorder which, unbelievably, became the backing tracks for the few overdubs therein.

There is a big difference in the standard of music between the artists who worked their way up from the bottom and those less talented who are heavily promoted for image value who will, or have already, been forgotten. The rash of the multiple boy/girl bands was annoying, relying on image rather than ability.
