Just watched the laying of the wreaths there for Remembrance Day.
When and why did the U.K. start the Remembrance Sunday nonsense? Absolute disrespect for the fallen and those who served.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Eh? How is it disrespectful? It has been going on for a long, long time
It started a long time ago when the remains of an unknown soldier were returned to the UK to be buried at Westminster Abbey. This enabled some families whose relatives were never found to believe it was their family member and was being laid to rest.
Remembering the fallen is about everyone. It is a moment of silence for those who will remain silent forever.
I understand that people do not agree with many wars and certainly what side they back in certain conflicts but WW1 and WW2 were so huge that had we lost we would have lived very different lives when born.
Today I remeber my friends whose lives have been lost while serving, Many more will do similar. Quite the opposite of disrespect.
Sometimes it is better to remain silent on something you don't like...

That last comment is interesting. I know he isn't everyone's cup of tea (I think he is tremendous) but there is a Gerry Cinnamon song called War TV about your comment there.
The first verse is:
There's a war on the TV
In a town called the world
And the suits turn their profit
While the mayhem unfurls
They're all quick to make war
But they won't send their sons
Shout the odds like a gangster
But they won't hold a gun

Maybe tell me where I was disrespectful as I certainly didn't mean it to appear that way.

Think it is fine having remembrance. Agree somewhat it should be the 11th or the nearest Sunday and not both.

I wouldn't normally agree with whodunnit but he's got you bang to rights here.
You should either stand your ground and explain why it's nonsense(you're perfectly entitled to that view) or just admit you used stupid language. Don't double down and tell us that you're silent for longer than everyone else.
Would have been better just not raising it in the first place.
Since you did though, I do think that poppies as a jewellery item is definitely disrespectful. Ffs how did that become a thing?

I don't think Remembrance is nonsense.
I do think changing the date to the Sunday for convenience is though.
11th of November is a national holiday here. Apparently not in the U.K. Why not? I think that is also disrespectful. FS this is the first time I haven't went to the memorial in Montreal. On the 11th. In nearly 50 years.

That last comment is interesting. I know he isn't everyone's cup of tea (I think he is tremendous) but there is a Gerry Cinnamon song called War TV about your comment there.
The first verse is:
There's a war on the TV
In a town called the world
And the suits turn their profit
While the mayhem unfurls
They're all quick to make war
But they won't send their sons
Shout the odds like a gangster
But they won't hold a gun

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Excuse me.
I know why it was started and I agree with it. I just believe it should be at 11:00a.m. on the 11th day of the 11th month. The date it was meant to remember.
Maybe tell me where I was disrespectful as I certainly didn't mean it to appear that way.

its not he is just wanting to create controversy.
I see it as a time to reflect on all those lost, regardless of what side they fought on and in no particular war either.

Think it is fine having remembrance. Agree somewhat it should be the 11th or the nearest Sunday and not both.
Doesn't seem to have been so many poppies around this year? Just an impression from walking about?

I think the whole covid backlash and people not socialising the same way and far far less people working full time in city centre is prob a contributing factor.

If you don't like the jewellery then you may not want to see what others have created. A football team drew a giant c()ck and balls in between two poppies recently
