And again half the people listed on this article I’ve never even heard of so I doubt most mainstream casuals have

The 5 listed are widely considered to be the best of all time

Fack me what a beige list

I’m surprised you didn’t put down ‘Mac Miller’ as honourable mention

Tyler Joseph from 21 pilots is a better rapper than most of them and it’s not even his gig.

Only Nas & Biggie from that list would make my top five. Nas’s King’s Disease series has really been a return to form.

Others would be MF DOOM and Esoteric, particularly the latter’s stuff under Czarface.

Wouldn’t realistically make a top five I don’t think, but I’m going to keep it British for once and back Loyle Carner - three absolute bangers in his career thus far

Need to get Method Man in there somewhere too. Guy is the only feature on Ready to Die, after it was said that Biggie took issue (vice versa) with a few members of Wu. Speaks volumes.

Liquid Swords or 36 Chambers probably my GOAT album

Black thought…I’ll stop now

Illmatic is better than any of the others albums in that list

Andre 3000
Raekwon
Method Man
Mod Def
Kendrick Lamar

A provisional top 5 while I mull over others, Black Thought an incredible rapper but doesn’t really have to music to back it up. Slimkid3

Greatest rap song I may agree with DJ with Triumph.

The Scenario Remix

Wouldn't have a clue what Nas has done or who he even is.

My era was the early 90s when rap was at its absolute best. The Chronic is a legendary album. Dre is the Don, Snoop was great with his cameos and quite a stable behind them.

Eminem blew the scene wide open later of course.

Nothin but a g-thang is the greatest rap song of all time. Close thread.

Today was a good day by Icecube another legendary tune.

Ah yes, the early 90s, featuring such timeless classics as, y’know, Illmatic, by some chap called Nas, in 1994…

Em’s first three albums are brilliant, as well as various features around that time, D12 stuff, et al. After that (and there’s a LOT after that) is utter, utter balls.

In fact, it’s now gotten to the stage that his later stuff has tarnished the brilliance of his older stuff, for me, as I can’t stand the sound of his voice
