I want to hear what Spyro has to say on the matter
----------------------------------------------------------------------
spyro, TUX and peks all conspicuously absent.

Probably in emergency meetings with their handlers.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
TUX is probably counting his losses in the crypto market.

Imo the worst that will happen is that Poland on their own join the war which would tip the scales further in Ukraine’s favour
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Lol whut?

Y wud a NATO member unimalatetally engage?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

If NATO chose to not step in as a whole Poland could gather a coalition of the willing and join Ukraine on their own free will.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

No they can not.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I’m fairly certain NATO countries are allowed to act independently but am happy to be shown otherwise 👍
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Some NATO countries participated in the invasion of Iraq, some didn't. NATO as an organisation did not take part. So, I'd say NATO members can fight wars independently.

It is not going to end soon. Spinning it out until Putin passes or is overthrown or the economic damage to Russia causes him to seek a solution. Longer it goes and the maximum the damage the more chance of recovering all the disputed land and Crimea into the bargain.

Ukraine can apply to join EU, the application will be accepted based on meeting financial criteria same as other applicants, EU will say they will provide support to accelerate that threshold but in reality will constrain it such that any final acceptance is a geopolitical move and not economic. Just IMHO of course.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think Ukraine locking in an accession path to EU membership is much more likely than seeing it join NATO any time soon (and will fack Putin off just as much).

Putin’s invasion is as much about attempting to erode Ukrainian democracy, freedoms, liberalisation and quality of life as it is about anything else. He can’t have Russians looking over the border at their brothers enjoying a free press, freedom of speech, broad civil rights, and a European standard of living. That kind of shat isn’t good for autocracy at home.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Spot on, Ukraine joining the EU would kill off Russian communism quicker than anything and Putin knows it.

That’s what this is really all about
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Busby a clear Putin sympathiser based on his comments over the past few months. Bit silly really.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No I’m not, this war is needless. The people I sympathise with are innocent citizens all over the world (Ukraine and Russia included) who have been shafted out of financial stability.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Financial stability? Fvk. When bombs are falling on your home other things take precedence.

An US Army General just stated a full Ukrainian victory is highly unlikely and that Russia still has the combat power to continue a bombardment for as long as they see fit.

BBC won’t report this though.

They're not biased. They are reporting on the fact that Russia invaded a democratic neighbouring country for no reason, except the Putin wanted to.
Bearing that in mind they can only report it the way they are doing.

The history is complicated and I'm not even going to pretend I know it all.
This conflict didn't just start with Russia invading Ukraine, USA (as usual) exacerbated the issues with Russia and Ukraine.

At the end of the day, war should be avoided at all costs, if it was your family members that were forced to go to war I'm sure you would have a different view.
