I'm no Mguire fan but he always does well for England.
Don't like Sterling in this side, decision making and finishing are generally poor.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Arguably England's best player in the Euros last year. I think he knits the attack together pretty well.
Some people never learn when it comes to certain players and England.
@OP I rate Foden very highly, but he didn't have a great deal of impact against a tiring Iran side that was leaving more gaps at the back.
Maybe Southgate's thought process isn't without merit.

Bombia, 606 doesn't seem to be one of your strengths, maybe try something different like counting sticks

Saka showing once again he should be one of the first names on the team sheet.

without doubt.. I mean you cant hurl abuse at him for another couple of years if he doesnt get to play !

Him and Bellingham should've cemented their places today if there was even any doubt beforehand.

Perhaps while you take spelling lessons?
Bellingham playing box to box as opposed to 2 x DM which hitherto has been Southgate's style has transformed the way the team played.

I think we need to stick with a three in midfield. Wouldn’t mind Phillips coming in for Mount. Would allow Bellingham more freedom to join the attack without sacrificing defensive solidity.

Yeah was refreshing to see that today rather than rice and Phillips ….hope he sticks with it
Should be Bellingham plus one of rice or Phillips
Definitely back up Saka s performance today….felt he deserved man of the match but don’t begrudge Bellingham getting it either
I’d like to see grealish instead of sterling ….when grealish came on he scared the life out of them , yes it was Iran who were already beaten but just think he has more to his game than Sterling

Actually like this too
With Saka and grealish either side of Kane
Not sure what mount offers to be honest…even seen Chelsea fans say he isn’t playing well this season
Foden is the most overrated player on earth so who cares about that. Maguire even being in the squad is a joke though

------------------------------------------------
I wouldn't argue with that in the latter stages if we can get Phillips some time out on the pitch.
Dropping Sterling for Grealish would be a terrible decision. I don’t know why people still question the bloke in an England shirt, he delivers time and time again.
TRS, yeah that’s my thinking. I reckon Walker will come back in at some stage. Hopefully we stick with a back four it he does, with Phillips and Walker in we should have enough protection for Shaw, Bellingham, Saka, Sterling and Kane to get forward.
Glad he dropped the three at the back. With the formation he played today, I’d go Maguire and Stones every time.
Front four, I’m not overly fussed who he goes with. I don’t think the result would have been much different today regardless of who he played, maybe Saka aside.
Really don't need 2 x DM, it stifles the attack, although interestingly Kane spent as much time in midfield as he did in the striker role today. Iran really weren't a true test as it turns out, despite their reasonable form before the tournament but you can only beat what is put in front of you.
Yeah we're much better with a back four. With the way we usually play under Southgate we can't afford to drop an attacker for another defender.
If we are going with four at the back then Phillips and Rice need to play. We’re too easy to play through the midfield without them. Most teams defend with five and attack with five. Against better sides England need to have five specialist defensive players starting.

That would be 6, unless Phillips plays box to box, instead of Bellingham. Which seems a bit unfair on Bellingham
I don’t think Shaw is a defensive specialist. He’s probably better going forward than he is at defending now.
