They won't but the UEFA nations should stand together and bring FIFA down or at least force a re-think of how the organisation functions.

Infantino is no less dodgy than Blatter imo, they need to bring it's governance into the modern age so it stops functioning like a Mafia family

Fair play to them but only works if lots of countries join them

I said the other day on another thread if the captain had got a yellow then his coach should pull his players from field of play!..

I don't think the tournament would now be playing had the Countries that wanted to do it had their captains booked then withdrew their teams from playing!..

Exactly - UEFA laid down for FIFA a long time ago

Ozil cannot talk about politics but every Tom and Harry can. Hypocrisy at its worst.

Bit of a nothing article. Even the Danish FA confesses that 207 members countries are behind FIFA so not sure how the European block will make any difference.

By all indications it doesn’t even appear as if the European block is even United. There is a reason why the FA withdrew and simply put there aren’t enough numbers to demonstrate or boycott without looking like teats.

This ship sailed a long time ago. Those who didn’t want to be part of this World Cup should have withdrawn a long time ago and replacements such as Italy and Ukraine invited to replace them.

Bla bla bla!

If these guys were going to do anything they would have not turned up in the first place.

They are playing you...

They are trying to have their cake and eat it. Play, participate and profit while at the same time doing the hollowest of virtue signaling.

Personally I think all the teams should wait until the third match of the group stage and say to FIFA let us wear the armband or we withdraw from the competition. Would totally ruin the integrity of it so FIFA would have to back down.

Dude... the penalty is for the players to get a yellow card.

The teams weren't even prepared to cede that ground for the cause.

THEY ARE PLAYING YOU! THEY DO NOT CARE AND ARE VIRTUE SIGNALLING WITH THESE HOLLOW GESTURES!

Dude, the captains get a yellow, then what?..

They'll be instructed to remove it, refuse then it's a second!..

The player's want to do something, but at the same time they want to play, if it comes to the stage where teams remove their player's from field off play I have nothing against it!..

But what is with the fans that'll lose out on their hard,(maybe not all but most!)hard earned money they've splashed out to get there!..

FIFA has to be put in place, and their place is supporting the teams they represent, if they can't do that than they need bringing down!..

Seems unlikely, especially the Danes. I don't see how you can back this statement up at all.

And anyway. SOMETIMES THINGS ARE COMPLEX AND NUANCED WITH NO EASY ANSWER, SHOUTING YOUR OPINION IN CAPITALS DOESN'T MAKE IT MORE RIGHT, IT JUST MAKES YOU LOOK LIKE AN IDIOT.

Here we have a pseudo-intellectual response to belittle somebody trying to emphasize a point.

There is nothing nuanced about this... If you look at it rationally, these are the key points:

1. The players want to stand up for human rights and make a gesture
2. However, FIFA have told them that if you make this gesture, you will receive a yellow card... not prison, not expulsion from the tournament... not even a red card.
3. Instead of accepting the penalty of a yellow card, to stand up to the violations of human rights, they have backed down. Hence putting their sporting ambitions ahead of supporting human rights.

They want to have their cake and eat it, and it shows that they really don't care. They are playing both sides of the coin. There is nothing nuanced about it and the fact that you have bought into it being "nuanced" shows that you have been played...

At least I made an effort to look intellectual tbf.

It might be useful if you took time to understand what you're on about before going to all that effort

Ozil was dropped by Germans when he expressed his concern for Chinese mistreatement of muslims in China. Hence, by that token germans should not be allowed to play for rest of world cup because of their gesture
