That is the big question. There was much to admire about Lawwell's stewardship of the club, BUT he undoubtedly cost us big time in several CL qualifying attempts, with a penny pinching "let's wait and see if we qualify before spending" approach to transfers. Too fecking late now, was often the cry. Financial prudence I admire, but that was seriously false economy at times ... cost us way more than it saved IMO.
Our penny pinching is legendary and it always comes from the top. I witnessed and heard some ridiculous goings on when I was close to it. IMHO he demonstrated zero awareness of the value of little things and what you got back from employees in return. Working for Celtic was supposed to be privilege enough.
The most ridiculous however would be signing players not sanctioned by the manager. Aside from pashing them off it was arrogant profligacy with money that could be better used - assuming that was the case - Shved, Weah, Mulumbu, Benyu, Kouassi under BR alone that were rumoured to be unwanted?
This d!k should never have been rehired after his last managerial signing.
Hiring Lennon was a fvkin dereliction of duty as far as I'm concerned.
End of the day, so long as the people on the executive board have a bit of balls about them.. he's got to to their line and not the other way around.
Obviously his ego is gonna cause massive issues and he'll try and lean on people, but I'm just hoping there's at least one or two on the board who will cajole the rest and tell them that there's a new way of running the club after his tenure.
Can imagine there will be and that they will push back against any of hisbpenny pinching austerity piish.
Strange news but might not be a totally bad development.
So long as he's not got the nuke codes.
Can imagine there'll be a few boardroom dramas when his ego kicks in and he starts politicking knowing he has no executive authority to sign off on stuff directly.
Wonder who his puppet(s) will be?
That's 32 years on and off he's been at Celtic.
He was pivotal in bringing in McCann when the BOS was about to padlock
the gates. So long as he knows his place we can maybe use his acumen.

He's the puppet - DD's!
Jeeezus, we're laughing at Rangers making a lazy appointment to0....?
Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou says he is more concerned about what he is having for dinner than the appointment of Michael Beale as Rangers boss.
Glorious fat bastirt!
Strange one this. His financial skills and risk aversion are what guided us through some potentially challenging times.
With the climate becoming more unpredictable in terms of significantly reduced income as many fans may struggle to pay the disproportionate costs of following a football team and a possible ban on alcohol based sponsorship; I get it.
His likely interference with contracts and signings will of course be a concern, but as a club; we will likely have to draw our horns in. Very uncertain times ahead. And if we have to manage with a significantly reduced income, who better for checks and balances?
Lawwell comes across to me as your version of David Murray
He might no bankrupt the place like Murray did with us, but he certainly seems to want to hang around the place longer than he really should to exert his influence, and will do everything that he thinks "is in the best interests of the club" when really, they aren't.
Fully get that and in appointing another money man as CEO the club signalled its intentions to remain that way inclined. The worry is he exceeds the bounds of his non-exec role and lobbies from within to do things the Lawwell way starting a boardroom battle and all that would entail about pashing off a key employee. Nicholson would have been his appointment so there will be an implied back scratch needing returned.

The big man will not suffer fools. If Lawwell were to drive him out it will be more than just gangsters he has to worry about torching his house.
You’d hope the existing staff fill him in on past goings on though some of them will be more loyal to the fixture Lawwell than the transient Ange plus Lawwell has his spy in the camp to feedback any whispers - got to admire his planning and execution, eh?
I was going to contribute an insightful comment on the pros and cons of FIFA influencer Pistol Pete rejoining Celtic as non-Exec Chairman.
But realised today is the day that Govan loan shark Douglas Hamilton gets voted back in by an ironically “slim” majority.
Glass half full and all that …
