Only the very cautious worried about having any trouble with a mane less Senegal.
The world cup starts now for England.

The first 40 odd minutes was poor. The CBs kept giving the ball away, putting the team in trouble that Senegal should have punished. Saka and Foden were poor, the midfield wasn't dominating, Kane not really effective.

Once the first went in everything changed. Bellingham really took over the game. Senegal crumbled, and Kane became a real influence.

Shocked Kane played more than an hour with the game won, very risky from Southgate.

As if Southgate has a say. Kane wants to play he plays.

Our CB's are so bad, they will eventually cost us.

We were lucky yesterday, Senegal are absolute rubbish.

It's been a theme throughout this tournament that we have been poor whilst the game is 0-0. The promising thing is that we have been a lot better once we score. I'd like to see us come out hard in the first 30 against France but Southgate favours pragmatism so we will go out not to lose it in the first 30.

Senegal without 3 of there best players we all probably thought this was a foregone conclusion.

The Live thread was amusing. All the players who were getting abuse were either scoring or assisting

I think it showed a deficiency in Rice's game, rather than the defence who were repeatedly pressed and had no options. You watch other teams and the deepest midfielder collects the ball off them, turns, runs with it or and moves it forward.

People will grown but against France, Safegate will need to put somebody next to Rice I'd imagine.

That's because France have been able to back up beating the poorer sides by beating stronger ones too. England traditionally don't so can't be taken as seriously for beating sides like Senegal and Iran.

I can't believe the stick Henderson gets,a certainty in our midfield for me.

Denmark and Tunisia scored their only goals of the tournament against France, the Aussies managed to take the lead against them and Poland could have had 2 or 3 yesterday.

England will cause that France defence all sorts of problems, as much as they will do us as they are arguably worse than us in that position, although it’s fine margins. Lloris was awful against Poland in the first half whereas (touch wood) thus far Pickford has been immense.

If Walker can keep a lid on Mbappe then we have every chance as we match up quite well against them - Giroud isn’t going to have the aerial dominance he is used to with Slab head at the back.

Luke Shaw is a worry though, I can see Dembele powering past him again and again.

But then I suspect England will have a field day if Pavard starts for them.

Can’t wait

Agree the midfield was a bigger issue than the defence

However, Senegal's 2 strikers marked Rice tightly, giving no space for the pass through to him

Henderson was too far forward when the CBs had the ball and should have helped in the build up

Henderson was clearly given instructions to play wide in midfield. He never does this for Liverpool, at least not any more. Although as I said, I think he'll have one sitting with Rice against France, which will likely be Henderson.
