I’m going for 82. First one I really got onto as a kid. That Italian’s celebration was fantastic, and for some reason I supported them in that tournament.
This WC has disappointed me, but mainly because Cymru were poor, and I haven’t watched much, if any since.

86 arguably had the best final.

and the best theme tune
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Bienvenidos , bienvenidos!
I remember singing along to this tune every night as a little 5 year old during that World Cup not knowing what the fook it even meant
Ill start again on the right thread...
Argentina 78 was a good World Cup. Even though England werent in it. Argentina were brilliant with Kempes and Luque. The Tickertape World Cup.
Pique the cactus was the best mascot
Now I look as an adult, seems pique was a chilli, even better
Pique the cactus....seriously...
86
Best final
Best goal
Best theme
Last relevant (in competitive terms) World Cup was 1982.
Every subsequent WC has had less & less to do with quality of team football and more & more to do with: marketing; the cults of personality and individualism; and 'la prawn baguette' brigades
For us England fans who are old enough to remember it is obviously 1966. This is probably the last chance for England to win it again in my lifetime. I'm holding my breath because I haven't got much left.

Problem is that it was a bent World Cup, without a doubt the most corrupt there has ever been and Argentina really should be stripped of that title.

The greatest thing to ever happen here. I was 16. Was fooking amazing. No problem getting a few pints and the whole country was behind the team

Nothing like it had ever happened over here before. Absolutely amazing it was.
And surprise surprise the journalists pretending to be outraged over this tournament are now using it for clicks.
It's like our fans and The Glazers, want it both ways.
If you're that outraged boycott it, if not Shut up.
Meh. Not nearly the best ever. The atmosphere is very blurgh for most games. The footy seems to be getting better though

There you go.
1974 was my first I really remember
I said the other day despite putting a post up about the human rights issues in Qatar they have rolled out an excellent tournament so far with no trouble no issues in brand new stadium's - nothing
Which to be fair you can't fault them for
Some of the draconian laws and way of life in Qatar have probably helped, as much as it feels contradictory to say.
With stadia so close together, if you threw alcohol and light policing into the mix, all hell may have broken loose.
Not that that is a suggestion that everywhere should adopt their way of life, of course.
Even the heat has been a complete non issue...which surprised me

I’ve also seen every World Cup since (and including) 86. I remember 86 quite well, but not well enough to say how great it was. My personal favourites are USA 94 (weird, I know) and Russia 18.
USA 94 was awesome. Baggio, Romario, Stoichkov, Hagi, Diana Ross, Bulgaria beating Germany, Ireland beating Italy, Romania beating Argentina in a classic, USA beating Colombia and getting through the group… Let down by a poor final though.
This one has been very good as well so far.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
USA 94 is the best for me. Great games like Holland vs Brazil, Romania vs Argentina, USA vs Brazil (on USA independent day), Romania vs Sweden, Bulgaria vs Germany... were all memorable games. Great goals too, like the Saudi solo goal vs Belgium, Romario, Stoichkov, Dahlin, Hagi, Amokachi, Branco, Klinsmann..

Yeh I quite enjoyed the 1990 one from an England point of view. Platt`s last minute goal against Belgium, being a few minutes away from losing to Cameroon, and then the dreaded semi final penalty shoot out against Germany.
Another one I liked was the 1978 in Argentina, definitely the best for atmosphere. The Argies certainly know how to support their team.
