Why not? It is estimated at least 10%of China population will be infected by the end of February during the lunar year...

Good thing is, most of the UK population has been vaccinated and we hope it works for the new variants.

If China had followed a zero Covid strategy 3 years ago, we wouldn't be in this situation we are now. Alas, they covered it up until it was too late and then followed an impossible to maintain zero Covid strategy when the horse had already bolted.

I don't forsee any further lockdowns but I suppose a really deadly variant could change things

So lock down China until the science says it is safe to do otherwise. Why risk the health of the rest of the world again. Wasn't Wusan the suspected source of the first pandemic?
If it is a mutation then the vaccinations against the original version may not be enough protection, although because of our bodies' amazing immune systems we would probably cope.
But if this has genuinely been identified a lock-down by all countries against incoming from China would be the sensible action.
This is not a racist post. I have a social and working history in Hong Kong. And I do realise the difference between the two.

No. We're vaccinated, China isn't. This is their issue, not ours. Omicron is still the dominant variety.

So we are vaccinated against the last versions of COVID. That does not mean we are immune to a new variant. Viruses naturally mutate. Our science has to keep up with them, it's not the other way round.
So to say "we are vaccinated" is an uninformed comment if you think that makes you safe.

That's false, cases were going up from before, it just delays the deaths but doesn't stop them. Also do we really believe their figures of covid deaths?

Also to think that the usually subservient people would riot against their dictatorship must have meant that they had enough, it's not feasible to live like that.
