I think if we’re being honest, rangers, Aberdeen are now just fighting for second place.. cause neither are anywhere near our level
----------------------------------------------------------------------
87th minute winner to get past Aberdeen
Aye...streets ahead like
Bowt time we got a bit of luck like this
Aberdeen...2 shots on target, 2 goals.
Can take that stat one of two ways
1) Aberdeen were clinical and took theior chances
2) McGregor is past it
I'll go for the latter, should never have let the free kick in, and his positioning for the second goal was questionable too.
Defence has to do better obviously, but with only two shots on target, our keeper has basically been tested twice...and been beaten twice, not good.
Done well to salvage that...horrible performance for most of the game, first 10-15mins were good, faded out after that, and looked very dodgy at the back, and did not se the two goals coming at all, but I'll take them.
Think it was all over if we didnt get those two goals
Over to you guys now

For the free kick, McGregor takes a step in the wrong direction and isn't set to get back across for the save on his side. See it fairly often from goalkeepers. Just need to trust the wall to do the job on their side and keep your side covered.
Their second goal was a peach of a strike but can't help but feel a younger, more mobile keeper would have got across to it. Is McCrorie basically just a training goalie for us or does he have a realistic chance of ever getting into the team?
Lots of talk last night of "if Rangers hadn't rescued that the league would have been over", which is a bit of a weird position to take as if there's enough of a swing for us to overturn a 9 point gap it's not too much of a stretch for us to go that one game more and overturn a 12 point gap. As it stands at the moment though I wouldn't have fancied us to hold onto a lead over Celtic never mind overturn a deficit. Amazing how far our standards have fallen since the league win.

Last nights come back wont have the slightest impact on our attempts to win the league.
We are woefully short of quality throughout the team and I have no confidence that will be addressed in January.
Guys like Sakala, Matondo and Wright will simply never be good enough.
McGregor, Jack, Davis and despite his heroics last night Arfield are no longer of the required level.
Kent, Morelos and Kamara have looked like they have one eye on the door all season.
Plus there is the huge list of the seemingly perma-injured players like Helander, Roofe, Souttar, Lawrence and now I fear Yilmaz.
We are not going to win the league with that squad.
That aside the players deserve enormous credit for the come back last night. But lets not pretend its more than it was. It was a brave spirited comeback against and poor Aberdeen side who had scored two worldies then resorted to the usual time wasting antics to help them see the game out. Thats up to them but they cant really have any complaints over 7 minutes of added time when 8 subs were made and several players went down for treatment.
BTW Johnny Hayes heading the ball off Tavs then hitting the deck holding his face is up there with Rivaldo for me. And of course Collum fell for it - free kick to Aberdeen
The ref was a joke, how he or var didn’t give a penalty for the McCrorie handball baffles me. Thought he was poor for both sides though.
Agree we don’t have enough to win the league and those still thinking we can are setting themselves up for disappointment. It’s about improving to be in the position where we can next season and working out who is worth keeping, where we need to strengthen and developing a style.
I think we can right off Helander, injured and final year.
Kent is off surely and Morelos not worth a new deal at the moment and even if he picks it up it won’t be long until he’s out of shape and a hassle so I wouldn’t bother giving him a new deal.
McGregor and Davis playing out their time but both done. Matondo and Wright can go, one is pure schite and the other can’t produce reliably.
I think Sakala is worth a squad role, frustrating but offers something. Same as Arfield for another season, don’t want to lose loads of experience in one go. Jack is in the if he can stay fit until the end of the season and play well then he should get another year group imo.
Hagi, Yilmaz and Lawrence are first team when fit and no worries about consistent injuries yet. All one offs. Souttar a definite problem and will need to be the 4th/5th CB option because he’s unreliable if talented.
Sands is schit and if we sign him even at a fraction of his buy out it’s a big mistake. I remain thoroughly unconvinced by King but people that know more than me rate him highly so deserves time.
Kamara will be fine now he’s under a manager that rates him.
Over the next two windows we need
1st choice keeper or McCrorie to make it his own but still another keeper.
1st choice CB that’s reliable because Davies isn’t neither is Souttar and King got it all to prove.
A creative CM that’s a regular.
Two/three wingers to replace Kent / Matondo / Wright
A CF or two to replace Morelos and Roofe if he’s not injury free quickly.
Be surprised if we don’t do a couple of those in January, going to be a big turnover over these next windows
Yilmaz still got a lot to prove but deserves longer.
Devine possibly shown enough to cover at RB longer term?
Hamish, Fash, can't really disagree with any of that.
Souttar is decent if he can ever stay fit. Davies no idea but worrying that he hasn't shown signs yet? Goldson clearly not match sharp last night so no criticism.
King has been fast tracked then called on when really he needs a year or more out on loan at another premiership team without the pressure and analysis on any mistake.
Kent has it, he just doesn't have it all. If he re-signs then working out a midfield and strikeforce that complements his creativity is essential cos right now no cant seems to know where he's going or when he's going to lay it off.
Sakala impact sub only.
The big issue is the scale of the re-build needed. Can't see money for a decent keeper so look for a Hart type freebie that wants big match redemption late in their career. TBH freebies seem to have been your recruitment focus? No criticism, just practicalities but the very nature of these guys are they are punts / not wanted elsewhere.
Fun and games.
I'll quite happily set myself up for dissappointment
Moments like that last night can be the moments when the pendulum swings the other way
I'm one of those in the camp that if we didn't get the 3 points last night...that was it.
Reason I say that, is because I feel we have to get through to the new year old firm without dropping any points or losing further ground, that will at least give us a chance to get the gap down to 6 points at the start of January and if that happens we are still very much in it.
We have players coming back from injury, Beale needs time to get the feet under the table, guys like Goldson and Davies getting more game time should shore us up at the back a bit.......that's why I feel that right now, good performances would be good but really it's all about getting the results ATM, and under Bealez that's us got 2 in 2, and both were difficult games, so I'm happy and will keep believing for now
I think McCrorie deserves a chance till end of season, but still expect we’d want a new goalkeeper.
Agree with that list of what we need although would be saying 2 cms, at least 3 wingers, and two cfs (if we could punt Roofe).
Any criticism of King is wrong though, 18 and playing in a pash poor team. Even if he had a consistent partner and was playing in a good team, I’d still be giving him time if he wasn’t performing given he’s only 18. He does need to prove himself, but has been given a contract and clearly folk in the know think he has a future with us.
Expect we’ll sign Tilman, been a key difference maker so that’s a chunk of cash spent already. Expect we’ll be looking at bosmans, so hopefully see pre-contracts tied up in Jan, then us trying to get them in early. Otherwise loan to buys have at worked for us so expect more of those.
When it comes to keepers we have to give McCrorie a chance
If he doesn't cut it...Jack Butland is out of contract in the summer, seems a rather obvious one to go for
Not to worry we have that warrior with a heart of a lion Borna Barisic back soon....

Don’t get why we can’t play an actual left back from the academy. Devine is obviously rated very highly and has been solid defensively but clearly isn’t a left back and takes away a lot from our attack.
Had thought Tierney was behind someone else in the academy pecking order at lb when he got a chance for Celtic due to injuries or have I made that up
Robbie Fraser has been in the first-team squad. He's highly rated and got on in one game. Devine has done pretty well despite it being obvious he's playing on the 'wrong' side.

Not sure what the issue is with Robbie Fraser. Playing Adam Devine ahead of him at LB is a bit of a kick in the nads for him although Devine has been around the first team squad a bit more.
They expected Robbie Fraser would go on loan this season but it never materialised. Hes captain of the B team and a solid player - he just got his first cap for Scotland U21s.
I like him but IMO he hasnt really kicked on this season. Another year in the Lowland league has done nothing for him. I guess like most young players he maybe just needs a chance.
Next in line is Kevin Ciubotaru who is a Romanian youth international LB. He maybe has a bit more skill than Robbie Fraser and is one I really think has a wee chance if he continues to progress.
Yea seems the obvious choice as captain of B team. Never mind Yfeko who Gio had in squad, also another young Romanian I can’t remembers name.
Surely have to be moving to a model where we have a couple players each position and if they’re not fit then that’s when academy is used. Granted we can’t continue to sign cripples for that to work

Johnly Yfeko is left footed and has played LB earlier in his career but he was poor in the couple of games he played there for the B team. He isnt mobile enough or quick enough to play LB.
He is more of a left sided CB. He has a good range of passing and is comfortable on the ball as you would expect for someone who has also played full back/midfield.
Aberdeen FC should issue a public apology to their loyal fans for the failure of their team to hold on to that lead!

A few years ago maybe but his career has taken a nosedive so would hope there’s someone else we can get between the sticks. Would be smart to give McCrorie the spot and see if he can solve the problem for free.
I’m hoping Beale will have a couple of Bassey types on the radar, guys good enough just not getting chances to breakthrough in the Premier League plus a couple of pre-contracts and frees and spend whatever cash we do have on 3/4 signings that walk into the first team.
Would be nice if we could recoup something for Matondo, he’s got a good reputation in Belgium so fingers crossed we can quickly send him back there because he’s so far down the order his Rangers career seems like it’s over before it starts. Wright I fear we might keep because he ticks a box for euro squads.

Bang on assessment of Barisic’s WC, to be fair. He was laughable in that one game he played. Don’t think I recall a player ever hitting the deck quite as much as he did in that game, to get a breather or whatever the feck he was doing. Commentators kept slaughtering him as well. No surprise he never featured again.
I like Borna and when he's on form he's fantastic, but it does seem like he's often scared to be anywhere near a football pitch.

btw: Rangers have to be the dirtiest senior team on the planet!

When it comes to keepers we have to give McCrorie a chance
If he doesn't cut it...Jack Butland is out of contract in the summer, seems a rather obvious one to go for

Not to worry we have that warrior with a heart of a lion Borna Barisic back soon....

Seems he has worn himself out playing in 1 world cup match. Yes 1 match in which he was awful and went down injured every time the ball went near him.
Absolute pu$$ybaws that he is.
