Is world cup qualification based on Nations League performance? Scotland could very easily end up 2nd in the league A group so could be a top seed? England could be a 2nd seed and end up in a group with Spain or Germany and not qualify for the world cup?

Scotland could be in a group with San Marino, Andorra, Kosovo, Germany and Estonia, beat Germany home and away then lose to Estonia and not qualify.

Yes. But does anyone know an actual answer to the question? How does the seeding work? Where is DJ when you need him?

I'll ask him

I'm 99% sure it's based on FIFA rankings.

Format is interesting:

The qualifying group stage will feature twelve groups of four or five teams. The winner of each group will qualify for the World Cup, while the second-placed teams will advance to the play-offs, along with the four best-ranked group winners from the 2024–25 UEFA Nations League which finished outside the top two of their qualifying group.

WC qualification is based firstly on the traditional qualification groups. 12 groups, top team in each qualifies.

The last 4 places are play-offs between the 12 group runners up and 4 best NL teams who haven't qualified.

Interesting that Germany are so far down the rankings now that they may not be a top seed come the draw. This is because they hosted the euros so didn't pick up many ranking points in qualifying. Could the same happen to England at the next euros? Or do the hosts have to qualify for that one?

England and friends will all have to qualify

So a second place finish in our Nations League group with Portugal, Poland and Croatia would almost guarantee a play off spot? Or maybe 3rd if other 2nd places finish 2nd in their qualifiers. It seems being in league A is rather advantageous for world cup qualification.

They havent confirmed it yet but last thought was
- all FIVE go into Qs. If any don't qualify they get host place (2 on offer). If 3 or more fail to qualify the best performing 2 get the slots.

NI might not host any games apparently.

Something about not having the funding to redevelop/rebuild existing Stadia.

Yeah saw that but they were part of the original UK and Ireland bid. Also they are basically Ireland anyway. Forgot about Ireland.
