Yeah, but the joke was not based on that.

You used the expression "If you ask me" in "If you ask me, it looks like more than 9 months" as a way of introducing an opinion, which is a perfectly good use of English.

But the grammatical structure of the sentence is a conditional, where the 'consequence' phrase is triggered if the "IF" condition is fulfilled, so:

IF we ask, then Militao WILL take more than 9 months to recover.

What can we have to do if we want him to recover faster?

Ask someone else (and hope they say he will take LESS time to recover).
