"according to talk sport" makes something definitely utter bs
----------------------------------------------------------------------
As soon as I realized talkpsort was the source I immediately checked the club's official website which had no mention of this story ... We shall see then
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Their MO is to create nonsense that winds people up enough to share the website and/or call in. Essentially it's a baiting company as much as anything.
Saying United are signing a poor player even on loan gets clicks as it were
I saw it on some Saudi outlet on twitter, likely where TalkShite got it from.
Would probably be another Ighalo type signing to be honest.
We do clearly need someone at the very least who can allow EtH to manage Martial's minutes.
I've not seen much at all about this player but if he can offer some energy and make unselfish runs to open space up for the likes of Bruno/Rashford etc then surely it's worth considering if we can't get anyone else?
What's Cavani up to at the moment, anyone know?

And it's more like 1 in 3 over the course of his career. And that strike rate isn't great for the leagues he's played in. Not saying he'd be rubbish but I wouldn't expect him to be scoring many if any goals for us
----------------------------------------------------------------------
91 goals in 212 appearances since 2013.
But yes, not great for the leagues he’s played in.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Generally, as a rule. If a striker hasn’t played in a top 5 league and doesn’t have a goal ratio above 1.33 per game (eg Suarez, RVN) then we shouldn’t be going anywhere near them.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Van Nistelrooy (didn’t have 1.33 ratio), Solksjaer, Larsson…
Or Tevez, Cantona, Bergkamp, Di Natale, Toni, Vardy, Romario, Rivaldo…
There are shiiiiitloads of players who’ve come from smaller leagues even mid career and gone on to be amongst the best in a top five league.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
RVN had a 1.33+ at PSV.
Solskjaer wasn’t signed as a starting striker, nor was Larsson (who was also signed as an impact sub, have proven effective as such at Barca in a top league).
Tevez and Cantona were both PL/English League proven.
Bergkamp wasn’t a striker, nor was Rivaldo (though he’s not relevant to the point because he never played in England). Vardy also doesn’t apply to the original point.
“RVN had a 1.33+ at PSV.”
Nope. 77 goals in 90 games in all comps. 62 in 67 in the league.
“Tevez and Cantona were both PL/English League proven.”
Not when they were signed by West Ham and Leeds, respectively. Both could have been United signings before transiting through those clubs.
“Bergkamp wasn’t a striker…”
Weird.
“Vardy also doesn’t apply to the original point.”
In what way?
The point is that history has coughed up myriad top, top strikers who don’t meet your criteria, including players who have been (in some cases incredibly) important for United, other top PL sides, and other top sides across Europe’s big leagues.
We’re getting Wout Weghorst.

Not a midget like Weghorst then.
We’d finally have our Fellaini replacement. Let’s just hope ETH isn’t stupid enough to play him in midfield.

I'll wait for Bushmouse to confirm. This would be a sensible loan I think though. Offers something different and he may well play his heart out trying to get a permanent move. Ten Hag got Haller scoring loads so you never know. Even if it's just to give Martial a midweek break etc I think it'd be worth it.
People seem to underestimate Martial’s capacity to create space for his teammates. Most of Rashford’s goals are scored when Martial is on the pitch. The pundits don’t see it, but ETH does.

Come on, he’s the Casemiro replacement we’re crying out for.
Weghorst was a 1 in 2 striker at Wolfsburg so no mug. I'd imagine his wages wouldn't be sky high either. If this is true then I'd have no issue with it.

Same. Not necessarily a replacement or back-up for Martial, just an alternative option; not a world-beater but someone Erik might get the best out of in this team.
Antony might start doing something if he has someone to cross to.

I'd be happy enough with this deal. Wouldn't be expecting miracles but as a short term loan signing, he'd give us something different. And incredibly for someone not overly mobile, he's still more mobile than the man he's replacing

----------------------------------------------------------------------
I’ve been saying for a couple of years that even though he wasn’t scoring we always played better football with Martial in the team. It’s not just the space but he always linked up better with Bruno and Rashford better than any of our other forwards.
It’s frustrating his finishing has become so crap, he used to be so clinical but lacking much else. Now he’s actually developed more to his game as a striker he can’t finish anymore.
