Some thoughts around Rutter

People moan that the board don't spend enough. Others moan that they spend too much.
I reckon that this lad'll be dynamite, he'll score and assist frequently, and I'll continue to believe that unless and until events prove me wrong. With him at centre forward, Gnonto, Summerville and Sinisterra can range freely around and Rodrigo can take the role most suited to a player of his age, talent and experience as an attacking centre-mid. They should make Rodrigo captain while they're at it.

756 so if you have all those playing that leaves us sieve for just 1 in midfield….

Recipe for disaster.

As I said a few days ago, not sure about this signing.
For us, right now. We're in a relegation fight. Being led
by a manager who doesn't know his best XI or formation.

I want to be happy about it as it covers a position of
need...sorta. But, too many unknowns about him and
about Marsch/ownership/direction.

It's a lot of money for us. In the Premier League it's not really that much

I'll add, if Gnonto is benched for Rutter, then the
signing is complete bollox. If Marsch/Orta see Rutter
on the pitch at the same time as Gnonto, then fine.

But, as you say Jonty, who gets dropped?

And if Rutter is destined to sit on our subs bench,
then why the hell break the bank on him now?

Might move to a two-up front and play a forward line of Gnonto, Rutter, Rodrigo, Sinisterra. With Summerville and Harrison aswell and Bamford to hopefully play a part.

We have to wait and see Batty, but if it was a 25 goal a season striker who could hit ground running I get it but 40 mill for the future might not be what we need to get out of jail right now.

Rodrigo is too scoring Spaniard anywhere in europe, how do you drop that?

I'm glad we now have some depth in our strike force. I hope this guy takes the league by storm.

We have needed to sign a proper striker ever since we sold roofe. In my view, we never replaced him, nor did we replace Pablo in midfield.

I hope with our 2 signings we'll see our chances converted and reckon it is time to play 2 up top.

I have faith in Marsch, he has us playing some great football and had we converted more of our chances we would have comfortably beaten villa.

A week ago marsch was telling us how money makes the difference when talking about Newcastle.

We’ve spent far more than Newcastle…can’t really compare and complain now.

Loved both players. Neither replaced adequately.

We have got depth upfront (especially once Sin
is back fit). But, is Rutter a No.9? Or is he, as has
been suggested by the experts online, a player
who can play across the front line? He's not a like
for like Bamford clone or Rod clone. He's something
different.

Like everyone though, I hope he's brilliant. And can
stay injury free.

Yep. Btw, did you also notice Vic wearing a 49ers shirt on the signing pics with Rutter? Is he telling us where the money’s come from?

Great eye and deduction there LB. I reckon you're
right. A subtle nod in their direction. Can't be a
coincidence, can it? Or, Victor's a 49ers fan and was
off to a play off watch party right after (playing Seattle).

Absolutely Jonty. We can't. Rod, Gnonto, Mes,
and Adams are, or should be the first four names
on the team sheet right now, week in, week out.

Jonty, I agree…. I’m not sure how we fit all these in when fit… but when was the last time we had a fit squad? Been 2 years I think, so cant knock the board for that.

“I feel we’ve overspent” .. you might be right, but then the board have been knocked for not spending too 🤷🏼‍♂️ …can’t have it both ways

“I feel these deals have been structured to pay to pay as little as possible now”… do you actual know that to be true or making a comment that might not be true ? 🤷🏼‍♂️ . I would be rather surprised that if I was in charge of the 49ers, and potentially about to take over a business that things happened without my agreement, so, firstly, I’d ensure no future commitments took place without my agreement and, second, that whatever payment structure was agreed, I’d be happy to take them over …

Another thing I’m surprised you’ve not picked up on… the board have always said buying in January doesn’t make sense and is overpriced … so why the change and the spending now ? So now they’re spending in January, is that to be viewed as poor and inconsistent from the board….. or as at least showing some flexibility when needed…. as we clearly need to spend…as the fans have been baying for ?

Not saying you’re wrong, but an alternative view on those points you raise might be that there’s a realisation from the board/49ers that they need to do more to try and avoid relegation, rather than just rely on Marsch. It’s not hard to see that Marsch will never be a Bielsa ..ie able to create more from what he has available.

I'm just asking how its all supposed to work, just like when we signed James and we already had Harrison, Raphinha and Costa and Poveda on the books, players have to exit.

I'd love to see teh scuba spending, but I dont love 25 mill wasted on James, 17 mill wasted on Llorente, 13 mill wasted on Firpo, 15 mill wasted on Costa and how much wasted on JKA is is 17mill?

Everything I've read about Rutter is good, but not finished product and 16-20 mill player, we've paid 40 m, it feels like an overspend to me.

I dont know anything specific on teh deal structure, but we're a club with no money and that is how people and organisations do things just look at JKA deal, they wanted to sell him, we didnt want to pay money there and then, so push it out to some point in future based on condition we'll surely meet, similar with Costa, look at Harrison loaned year after year.

It's just how we seem to do things.

I haven't given too much thought to 49ers, but completely agree that this is a sea change for us for a Jan window and this spending doesnt make sense compared to statements of having to ship out James to bring in Gnonto, unless Marsch was just talking bull and wanted way to exit Bielsa era player, which is entirely possible of course.

I hope Rutter works out, I'd rather we have too many good players than not enough, I've always said that about us.

Not sure if I agree with Rods as captain, but he is certainly giving it large this season. I would be interested to Hear your reasons, though, perhaps on a separate thread?

Go out and buy a £16 - £20m striker and that would be a waste of money in the premier league, wouldn't score and would get nowhere near the first team.
