Never played the game, and enjoying what I’ve watched so far but it’s early days. It’s getting a lot of hype I don’t think it merits just yet.
Loved the game. Thought the first episode got a little boring towards the end. Hopefully picks up when they introduce the infected.
As you said made a pretty good balance of staying true to the game where it matters as well as making a more TV-friendly version that so far seems to be standing on its own. You really appreciate the storytelling in the game along with the excellent music and some of the scenes of Boston are incredible as well as being beautifully extracted from the game. The infection is now a little scarier too so a great change there.
I'm not watching it but everyone around me seems to be talking about it and asking me if I'm watching it

SPOILER
****Don’t watch if you’ve not played the game, or seen episode 2 yet.****
Its excellent.
I thought people overated the 1st episode a bit, even my mrs wasnt overly sold on it thinking its just gonna be another zombie effort.
Thankfully episode 2 really nailed it and she loved it.
The production is very high, the settings are amazing, the clickers looked superb.
Episode 2 was very tense with some really beautiful moments.
At first I wasnt a fan of the casting, too much. Didnt take to Ellie at all, pretty sure thats just the visual match however. But as it progresses the more and more she nails the actual character.
She has that quirky and witty Ellie down to perfectly
It is gonna be the standard for the rest of the year and its gonna be difficult to better.
I like the changes they have made, understandable why they dont have the spores as it would affect story telling and character work a good bit.
The collectiveness hive thing is very good, and a terrifying thought.
Just for clarification .... when the horde attack is that cos one of the infected seen them whilst still haing sight and fed that back to the collective or did they step on a fungal root or something that triggered it that I missed. I read somewhere say it was a root but i thought it was done through the eyes of a freshly infected?

There's a tendril-type aspect that has replaced the spores. So I think sort of like the spores in the game, the bodies become useless and are no longer affected after a time. The Dr sees the tendrils in one of the first victims and then we see it at the end with Tess
Did anyone think Joel's daughter was cast a bit too old? She looked like a grown woman
Wow, what an episode - and I think I know where it's going and what they are doing

I will watch it tonight .. looking forward to it.
Episode 3 was a fantastic episode, the changes from the game are working really well. Whilst I wasnt left crying (like many are) at the end of this episode, if the story of Sam & Henry packs a punch like this episode, I might be
Was nice to get more back story to Bill.
But this was a bit of a filler episode to me. It was decent but Id have settled for half the episode for that side rather than the whole episode. It was better than most filler episodes of other shows but a filler nevertheless IMO.

yeah I get the tendrils but I meant when the runner comes back round and looks at Joel and Tess and then the whole nearby horde zone in on them... is that cos what one can see they can all see? or did they tread on a live root somehwere that alerted them all?
if so does that mean what one runner can see they can all see?
Completely different to the game, can just watch the start and end of the episode and not miss out on anything, filler.

They trod on a root.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
kl, I didnt see that .. I know they cjecked the root outside the museum but it was dead, dont remember them treading on one inside that tiggered them all. As soon as runners woke up it seemed like it alerted all the other runners in the area.
even though I say it was a filler episode it was most definitely one of the best filler episodes going!

You’d miss out on a good episode of TV though.
If you only want the game you really should just play the game again. If they made a TV show of just the game stuff it would be pretty boring too, just constantly scenes of Joel and Ellie going into a new building and looking for supplies, then running into another bad guy or infected.

well technically you could say that about most things then.
this episode was about showing the bleakness in the world but if you have someone it can still have its moments of bright.
Its both expanding the lore of the world which they need to do and its setting up relationship that is forming between Joel and Ellie but by bit.
It was well written and adds a lot to the tone, the feel and the reality of the world its set in but at the same time provides some hope. Its really well done when yo think of it.
Id rather just have had a little more main story progressed alongside it.
sorry Taki replied to wrong comment that was meant for the one you said about just show the start and the end comment.
