Fans are fans and have little say in how their clubs are run. Why should they fall on their swords?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
But fans can choose who they support? If you know your club are cheats, do you continue to support them or move on from them?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Most City fans I know supported them long before they got ruch, indeed some right down to the 3rd tier of Emglish football. Even those who chose to support them will have little to no knowledge of any alleged misdemeanours.

And if it comes to light that their club has effectively been transformed into a monstrosity, and in all likelihood will continue to be so, they can choose to forgive and accept or choose not to

Exactly, and City fans ferociously defended and condoned the cheating and actually helped a dictatorship to sportwash their image using their club. It's not like they were a protesting participant. Wummed and mocked other fans with their success.

I don't feel sorry for them at all if I'm honest. Easy come easy go. If the deal is too good, think twice. So many warnings and signs gone unheeded by them.

They think their club with small fan base and little global reach could generate United and Madrid level revenue? During covid they went from 6th to 2nd in the revenue table while everyone else pretty much stayed where they were or most ground. I mean, come the fack on! They allowed themselves to be mesmerized by the shiny trophies.

If City are fined I think some of the money should go to the real fans of football like the OP.

Reduced Sky subscriptions, discounts on sofas from Ikea, free Doritos and Pepsi Max should be the least that could be done for this long suffering majority

Spoken like a true plastic, would you just go back to supporting Liverpool if United were in the dock or adopt an overseas club?

Look at him go. Deflect Deflect Deflect.

Just admit you are only relevant because you got bought by a corrupt regime and now your classless cheating is unravelling right in front of your eyes and your lashing out because you don't want to go back to being what City have always been. Irrelevant

I couldn't swap clubs, too much emotional investment.
But if disgusted could stop supporting United, although I know I would always have a peek at their score.

Binky deserves all the stick he is going to get.

But let’s be honest here, we all know that City have been financially doped be it legal or illegal. I have never seen their wins as anything other. The same with Chelsea.

To be fair other fans and most in the media have never respected the oil money achievements like they do with United and the dips.

I agree with this. I have much more respect for what Liverpool have achieved in recent years and what Arsenal are doing now.

In all honesty I think if i were to stop supporting United due to illegal activities, something bad enough to push me enough to not following United any more, I just wont follow any team anymore, that'd be the day i fall out of love with football and stop following it

Yeah, tbh just the idea of being a 'state owned' club might be enough to turn me away (I feel like I'm more uneasy than most about who the Glazers might end up selling to).

But it's only really something you can say once you're in that situation, as turning away from your football club must be an incredibly difficult thing to do - which is why you're seeing City fans getting defensive about this rather than facing the likely truth that it all holds weight. Because the alternative is to admit that your club's victories over the past 10 years have been hollow and pointless.

There must be a small part of all City fans that has always felt that way though. Which is why I've never really understood the clamour from a lot of our fans to have sugardaddy owners. What enjoyment are you really getting out of it?

Thing is city could've been smart with it but their growth just isn't normal or believable. The scale their income has rocketed just doesn't make sense. Football is fickle but to think they have that level of growth is a bit silly.

United, Arsenal and Chelsea have all spent massively but haven't moved the goalposts regarding ffp. Saying that I sense this will go on forever in the courts and rival fans are always going to assume City are guilty til proven innocent just cos it hasn't made sense, in terms of their financials. We won't know the details til it plays out.

If it ends up that we’re found guilty, then the owner and management deserve whatever punishment comes their way, I’ve always been of that opinion. Likewise, until that happens, then they’ll get my support, so I’m essentially of the exact same opinion as Pep aside from rather than me leaving, I’d clearly want them to leave the club.

In terms of what it means for us as fans, I can only speak for myself but it’s just on to the next chapter. As much as owners have more influence than anyone on the success of a club (and City fans know that as much as anyone!), it’s completely out of our control and people of my age or older I think realise that by now.

Plenty to look forward to if the outcome ends up being a severe punishment. I’d absolutely love to go back to 3pm kick offs and not having every single game and player or manager action overanalysed to death for a bit! Supporting a team that’s successful at the highest level vs one yoyoing or in the lower divisions isn’t a better or worse thing, it’s just different.

Just on that, the growth actually isn’t in question. If it was, some of the charges would have included more recent years too.
